Donald Glover's official return to the stage took place at Camp Flog Gnaw in November 2025. During his set, he opened up about his health scares that involved a stroke, multiple surgeries, and the collapse of a world tour that had been branded as the end of his Childish Gambino era.

Donald Glover's appearance at Tyler, The Creator's annual festival was the first time fans saw him perform live since the cancellation of dozens of shows across North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. The audience also learned the real reason behind the abrupt shutdown of his last tour.

Donald Glover cancelled his last tour because he suffered a stroke, a broken foot, and a hole in his heart. The issues required multiple surgeries. During his latest 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw set, he revealed that doctors first diagnosed him with a stroke after he collapsed in Houston. Other problems were eventually diagnosed later.

Donald Glover's complete statement about the reason he cancelled his last tour

Glover paused between songs to deliver the "Where Have I Been" monologue. He had invited fans to vote for what they wanted him to talk about. This monologue was chosen, which was an explanation of what had happened to him during the final leg of The New World Tour in 2024.

Donald Glover's complete statement is as follows:

"You guys voted for Where Have I Been monologue. Okay, so. Just doing this world tour. Just having lots of fun. Really loving seeing you guys out there. And I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana. And I did the show anyway. I couldn't really see well. So when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital and the doctor was like, you had a stroke. And the first thing I thought was like, oh, like, Here I am still copying Jamie Foxx."

Donald Glover continued his emotional revelation:

"That's really like the second thing. The first thing, the first thing was like, I'm letting everybody down. I know it's not true, but I've broken my foot. I always promised Ireland I am gonna be there. And I still haven't been. and they found a hole in my heart. So I had this surgery, and then I had to have another surgery. So, you know, they say everybody has two lives until they realize Now everybody has two lives, and the second life starts when you realize you have one. You got one life, guys."

He also added:

"And I gotta be honest, the life I've lived with you guys has been such a blessing. I love seeing and performing for you guys. As my wife says, which I love, she's like, if this life is a flavor, soon as I'm done, give me another scoop. You should be living your life how you want. Because it can only get better. If we have to do this again, it can only get better."

Notably, at the time of the cancellations, Donald Glover's public statements were relatively brief. In September 2024, he had only told fans that he was postponing the rest of the North American dates to focus on his health. A few weeks later, the entire tour was cancelled. In a now-deleted old social media post, the musician stated:

"After my show in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston to make sure of an ailment that had become apparent. After being assessed, it became clear I would not perform that night, and after more tests, I could not perform the rest of the US tour in the time asked. As of now I have surgery scheduled and need time out to heal."

However, Donald Glover did not reveal the complete details. Eventually, refunds were issued to fans as the tour cancellation was officially declared.
