Writer and performer Jillian Lauren was arrested in April 2025 for firing shots at the police. According to a report by TMZ, the police were after another suspect in Lauren's neighborhood and had to be apprehended for a hit-and-run case. At the time, the police released the bodycam footage in which Lauren was seen running around the backyard with a gun in her hand.

Officers reportedly told her to drop the weapon, but she paid no heed. They fired a shot which hit her shoulder, and she went back to her house. She came out of the house after some time and surrendered herself to the police. Lauren was reportedly taken to a hospital where she received treatment. A bond of $1 million was set for her release. Lauren recently filed for divorce from husband and Weezer band member Scott Shriner.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone published on December 20, Jillian Lauren said that she was not permitted to discuss certain aspects of the case. Although the case is pending, she is working with a mental health program. Looking back at the incident, she said:

“I was doing the best I knew to protect my family. The impulse was self-defense.”

Jillian Lauren also mentioned:

“My world fell to pieces around me in a heartbeat. It’s like, you spend your whole life just getting an entire deck of cards in order. And just take them and throw them up in the air one day, and I’m still waiting to see how they’re gonna land.”

Jillian Lauren talks about being held in a cell

During the interview, Jillian Lauren remembered the time she was taken to jail. For a moment, the graffiti on the walls helped distract her from the situation at hand. She said:

“It gave me a chance to get out of my head for those hours in the jail cell and imagine who else had been there. In the throes of it, I was saying I will never do a book about this because I can’t experience this again. Books are what I do.”

Regarding the court’s decision to get her enrolled in a mental health program, Jillian Lauren said:

“When the headlines came out, my joke was, ‘I’m not just a gun-toting criminal, now I’m a crazy one. My PTSD is a very real thing. I’m a victim of s*x trafficking and domestic violence. … When the headlines said ‘Mental Health Diversion,’ what I really thought was, ‘OK, good. People are so scared to talk about this.’ I’m in a position where I can speak to it.”

As she navigated her divorce from Scott Shriner, she said her primary aim was to be the best version of herself. Nevertheless, the way her separation has been portrayed by the media hurt her. She said:

“Divorce is painful, I don’t care who you are.”

Despite everything, Jillian Lauren and Shriner maintained a friendly relationship. She considered him her “best friend.” Although she thought they would transform and grow in their lives, they just grew apart.
