Podcaster Ned Fulmer and his ex-wife, Ariel, sat down for the opening episode of his ‘Rock Bottom’ podcast. However, the partnership was not well-received by netizens. For the uninitiated, Ned and Ariel were married for almost ten years, but they called off their relationship after he got involved in a cheating scandal back in 2022.

According to Us Weekly, the September 17 episode of the podcast was criticized because many perceived that he took advantage of the situation. Others allegedly questioned Ariel’s stake in the podcast. On November 7, Ned posted a video on his personal YouTube channel, explaining the situation. Ned Fulmer said:

“I've heard a lot of the commentary and reactions to my podcast episode with Ariel, and I wanted to take this video to address some of them. That episode with Ariel was mostly about her story, and now in this video, I'll tell a little bit more of mine.”

Ned Fulmer said that although the conversation in the podcast could have been difficult for viewers, they needed to move forward. He mentioned that the conversation with Ariel was her idea, and she was also a stakeholder in the podcast. He added:

“So that was part of the reason why in terms of having that conversation, we did it together rather than on any other platform.”

Despite that, he said they were aware the episode could draw much attention. According to Ned, clips from the episode did not represent what they discussed in the entire episode.

Ned Fulmer discusses how he tried to make sense of the situation

In the YouTube video, Ned Fulmer acknowledged that he cheated on Ariel with an employee. He said it was selfish of him but eventually sought therapy to understand why he had done what he had done. Reflecting on Ariel, he said,

“In terms of my relationship with Ariel, it started as a therapeutic separation and then from there I prepared a disclosure document that answered all of her questions and volunteered for a lie detector test to then in a therapeutic setting convey that information to her so that we could build something new on the same page of knowing exactly everything that happened.”

Ned Fulmer said he had been practising listening and tried to maintain boundaries with Ariel. At one point, Ariel wrote an impact letter, explaining how she felt about the situation. He listened to what she had to say and tried to understand how she was affected by the betrayal. He said:

“So, this was a long process that it took you know approximately two years and continues work even to this day at the 3-year mark even though we uh decided to separate officially 2 years in.”

Ned Fulmer said that he understood people could choose what they wanted to watch online, and if they didn’t want to follow him anymore, that was a result of his own actions, which he had accepted. He explained that he truly believed in the purpose of his podcast, Rock Bottom, which aimed to create kind and thoughtful conversations.
