Why is Nick Carter suing accuser’s mom? Singer’s lawsuit request explained

As per a recent publication by US Weekly, Nick Carter has sued the mother of his sexual assault accuser, Melissa Schuman. Carter requested the judge to add the name of Schuman's mother to his lawsuit alleging an attempted shakedown against him.

Carter's legal team on November 13 revealed that they added the name of Schuman's mother, Leisha Stinson, to his lawsuit. Carter's has filed a lawsuit against Schuman and her parents for defamation and extortion.

Schuman's father, Jerome Schuman, was already mentioned in the lawsuit. As per the exclusive publication, Jerome testified during his deposition that Stinson, Melissa's mother and his ex-wife ran an autonomous ran an anonymous X (formerly Twitter) account that was part of the extortion plot.

Carter mentioned that the family hid the identity of the Twitter user and used the account to propagate false and defamatory statements about him.

“Then they used the foregoing sham account to defame Carter and pursue their extortive goals", read Carter's statement

To hold Stinson "accountable for the harm and damages that her illicit conduct has caused," Carter insisted that he be permitted to include her as a defendant.


About Nick Carter and the sexual harassment charges

Born on January 28, 1980, Nick Carter is an American singer born in Jamestown, USA. As a child, he appeared in various commercials. In 1992, Carter auditioned for Backstreet Boys because of his interest in music. After joining the band, his career took off.

His first solo album, titled Now Or Never, was released in March 2002. Nick Carter's younger brother, Aaron, is also a successful singer. On April 12, 2014, Nick Carter married Lauren Kitt. The couple shares three children named Pearl, Saoirce, and Odin.

In 2022, Nick Carter was accused by Shannon Ruth of sexually harassing her. Carter denied all her claims. Carter filed a countersuit against Shannon and her parents, accusing the trio of extortion and falsely accusing him.

Melissa sued Carter for an alleged assault dating back to 2003. The music star subsequently filed a countersuit against her, alleging that her unfounded allegations prevented him from landing endorsement opportunities.

Carter sought in his countersuit that Melissa compensate him for the damage to his reputation by paying him more than $2 million.

Carter acknowledged in his petition that he had a consensual contact with Schuman in 2003.

"Melissa and Carter fell asleep following consenting sex. The Backstreet Boys star's attorney claimed that [Melissa] spent the entire night sleeping next to [Carter].

In the court documents, the singer's team said that at no point did Carter sexually harass Shannon. Carter mentioned that these false accusations caused a lot of harm to his career,

"Melissa copied or 'tagged' many of her own and others' defamatory statements directly to third parties that are either involved with or have influence over [Nick's] prospective business opportunities, advantages, and contracts, in addition to publishing the defamatory statements to the world on social media and through other mediums," according to Carter's attorney.

As per US Weekly, Carter is supposed to be deposed on the case in the upcoming months.
