Actor Woody McClain seems to have run amok while appearing on former football player Cam Newton’s podcast. On June 7, McClaim appeared on Newton’s podcast, but as the conversation rolled on, the actor left the place abruptly, only to return after a while.
Cam Newton asked McClain whether the emotions actors show on screen feel real or fake to them. Woody responded that, for him, the emotions were always real. He explained that with every role he took on, his goal was to get as close to the truth as possible.
He said he no longer felt like he was acting and saw it as being honest on screen. However, as he delved more into it, his voice began to tremble, and he became emotional. As a result, he went off-camera to compose himself and returned to finish the conversation.
Meanwhile, according to HotNewHipHop, Woody McClain shared an X post, where he extended his apology to Cam Newton and his team. He wrote:
“I want to apologize to @cam and his team for my actions on his podcast!!!”
Woody McClain talked about how people often saw him in one way, even though he had played different kinds of roles. He shared a story from his first acting class in LA, where the teacher asked classmates to describe what type of character they thought he would play without knowing him.
Most of them said things like “bad boy” or “thug,” which surprised him. When he turned around and introduced himself, the whole class laughed, showing how their assumptions didn’t match who he was.
“If anything, lean in” – Cam Newton comforts Woody McClain as he breaks down during the conversation
As the conversation went on, Woody McClain said he wanted to be more careful with the roles he chose going forward because he didn’t want people to keep seeing him as a negative character. At this point, he almost had an emotional breakdown, and Cam Newton comforted him, saying:
“It's okay bro.”
McClain then stood up and walked across the room, beyond the camera’s range, and came back. He then wiped his eyes, and the two sat down quietly for some time. The actor then broke the silence and said:
“My bad. My bad”
Cam Newton said it was alright, adding:
“Don't feel rushed. If anything, lean in.”
Woody McClain shared that he put in a lot of effort to move on from how people saw his younger self. After going through a tough time and having a personal moment with God, he decided he wanted to take a better path in life.
He aimed to become someone others could look up to and refused to let anyone limit or label him. Cam Newton then asked what impacted him the most. The actor said:
“I think it was recently finding out I have twins on the way two baby girls and for some reason now in the acting community people identify you what you play. So, I don't want my baby girls to grow up and think their dad is a bad person.”
Woody McClain said he had become more mindful about the kind of work he shared with the world. He admitted that stepping into fatherhood felt overwhelming since he didn’t know much about it, and everything seemed uncertain as he tried to navigate it.
