Prime Video has recently announced Red, White & Royal Wedding, the sequel to Nicholas Galitzine & Taylor Zakhar Perez's beloved romance movie Red, White & Royal Blue.
For long, happy endings were reserved for straight couples on screen and queer romances almost ended in tragedy for couples. However, this 2023 queer romance movie, based on Casey McQuiston's eponymous 2019 novel, changed the narrative.
After proving that love triumphs all (in their first outing), actors Nicholas Galitzine & Taylor Zakhar Perez are returning as Prince Henry and Alex Claremont-Diaz to deliver the next chapter in their epic love story, directed by five-time Emmy-nominated Jamie Babbit.
Amazon MGM Studios recently announced Red, White & Royal Wedding, much to fans' delight, who were waiting for news on Alex and Henry's future. Red, White & Royal Blue follows Alex and Henry's enemies-to-lovers story, as they realize their feelings for one another and beat all odds to announce their love to the world. Two years later, they are asking you to RSVP to their most anticipated Royal wedding of the year in the sequel.

Red, White & Royal Wedding: Against all odds, love reigns again
It is only a testament to fans' love that Red, White & Royal Blue is getting a sequel movie with Galitzine and Perez set to reprise their beloved roles. Their chemistry was highly appreciated by fans, with several GIFs and memes (read the cake incident) making rounds on the Internet.
What makes McQuiston's story so endearing is that she mixes Henry's political obligations with his love for Alex, but the first movie ended on a positive note. While Alex and Henry embraced their 'scandulous' relationship in front of the world, Alex's mother (played by Uma Thurman) was re-elected as the President.
McQuiston's readers appreciated her representation of a queer male relationship in the novel when it was published back in 2019 and its success certainly paved the way for a movie adaptation. Nicholas Galitzine & Taylor Zakhar Perez's star power and charming chemistry furthered the story's case and the movie was a hit, bagging a sequel order and a nomination for Outstanding Television Movie at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Red, White & Royal Wedding truly feels like a win for queer love stories on television. While tragedy is poetic, Alex and Henry's happy ending feels like a personal win and the world waits to see their royal wedding in the sequel.
What can you expect from Red, White & Royal Wedding?
While plot (and cast) details for Red, White & Royal Wedding are being kept under wraps for now, the script is being developed by McQuiston, Matthew López and Gemma Burgess. López has happily stepped down from directing duties and passed the baton to Babbit, who made her directorial debut with the 1999 queer teen movie But I'm a Cheerleader.
Babbit announced her new role in a statement as:
"After directing But I’m a Cheerleader in my 20s, I’m thrilled to be back in the queer love universe of Red, White & Royal Wedding. We all need this kind of optimism, fantasy, and gay joy. I'm thrilled to work with this brilliant team."
As the name suggests, the sequel will follow the next chapter in Alex and Henry's love story, where they will plan to seal the deal with a Royal wedding. However, their Royal affair is bound to face some challenges, but love will triumph at last.
Red, White & Royal Wedding could take inspiration from McQuiston's bonus chapter of the collector's edition, which follows the lead couple some years after the end of the novel. While Alex is pursuing his law degree, Henry is continuing his work in philanthropy after abdicating his position on the British throne. The chapter ends with a small and intimate wedding, which can form the basis of the upcoming movie.
