Cardi B took to social media to react to the US Federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) being cut, with the program set to run out of money before Thanksgiving. The program is set to run out of funding, and with the US government currently in its third-longest shutdown ever (as Per USA Today), the future of the program is in doubt.
Cardi B stated in her reaction to the food stamp program issue:
"People are complaining that they have taken away food stamps. Mind you, Thanksgiving is next month. No Turkey for some of y'all. Very interesting. And I find this so funny because these are the type of things I was trying to warn y'all that's gonna happen in the Trump administration."
Cardi B continued:
"But y'all didn't care. All you all cared about was that I called him Shrump. You will consider me rich, right? I'm a millionaire. The taxes of living has become high for every goddamn thing. Everything has become high. I order a piece of furniture and I order it from Italy."
Cardi B added:
"And because of the tariffs, you know how much they tried to charge me for furniture from Italy to America. $15000 Dollars. Everything been rising up, from the prices of f***ing Fashion Nova and Shein to Chanel and all of that shit, because the tariffs are so f***ing expensive..."
She later talked about her speech in Milwaukee in 2024 in support of Kamala Harris and how she had warned people about Trump even back then:
"Thank God I wrote my speech down in my fucking phone. But whatever the f**k I said, I meant that sh*t. Whatever the f**k I wrote down in my phone, I made my research on it so I could share it to the f***ing world. Whether I have an accent or not, it went viral."
Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins made the formal announcement at the White House regarding the fact that the food program was about to run out of money on October 16, 2025, stating to reporters that millions of Americans would be left without the program due to the ongoing shutdown.
This lack of funds also comes after the Trump administration increased the eligibility requirements for the SNAP program as part of the Big Beautiful Bill. The bill, which went into effect in July, cut spending totalling $18 billion dollars, as well as requiring all able-bodied people to work 80 hours a week.
The program applies to everyone over 14, including Veterans, unhoused people, and young adults transitioning out of foster care. The bill also strips the previous provision of noncitizen eligibility. Thus immigrants, refugees, asylum seekers - including those who were granted asylum - and human trafficking survivors all lost their SNAP benefits as well.
Cardi B has previously criticized Trump
Alongside her criticism of Trump and his food policies, Cardi B previously criticized the Republican president in June 2025 for the increased immigration raids in Los Angeles, in an interview with Complex, stating:
"He always gives dictatorship vibe. I tried to warn people that this was going to happen. I don’t know nobody anymore in the White House. I don’t know a representative. I don’t know nobody in there. And if I talk about it every single day, he is not going to care."
She also urged Trump to be more compassionate during the interview with Complex. Cardi B has also stated in other livestreams that she feels bad for asking people to buy her albums even during this financial crisis.
