Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards recently spoke to Screen Rant about the nine commandments laid down by the film's writer, David Koepp. These are a list of rules he uses to navigate the recent installment. When asked about the list, Edwards said that Koepp never revealed the entire commandment but would occasionally mention it to win any argument. He said,

"No. No. He would just bring them out when he needed to win an argument. So he would be like, 'Wow, commandment number four.' And so I only heard about two of them."

Koepp's set of rules suggests that the film is going back to its original roots set out by him and Spielberg in the 1990s. It was reportedly inspired by Chuck Jones who had a similar set of rules for himself during the making of Looney Tunes. In the same interview, Edwards said that Koepp was keen on balancing humor with horror elements in the film. He said,

"I think the one of them was something like, he's got a more eloquent way of saying it, but it was essentially that the movies are fueled by fun and humor. The more that you have, the more you can be scary. It's like you get a horror token every time you crack a joke."

He then mentioned the original film as an example of the same.

"And if you watch the original Jurassic Park and you sit there with a clicker, there's way more jokes than you give credit. There's a lot of humor in that film, but you wouldn't walk away going, it's a comedy and you wouldn't walk away going, it's a horror because they sort of balance each other out."

Jurassic World Rebirth is produced by Patrick Crowley and Frank Marshall. The film takes place five years after the events of 2022's Dominion and focuses on a team of experts who try to extract a piece of DNA from three dinosaurs. Its cast members include,

  • Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett
  • Luna Blaise as Teresa Delgado
  • Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid

  • Ed Skrein as Bobby Atwater
  • Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis
  • Rupert Friend as Martin Krebs

Universal Pictures will be releasing Jurassic World Rebirth on July 2, 2025.
