The upcoming musical comedy, Power Ballad, starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, is scheduled to release on June 5, 2026, as revealed by Lionsgate.

The film is helmed by Irish filmmaker John Carney, who has previously directed films such as Once, Begin Again, Sing Street, and more. This forthcoming film is co-penned by him, along with Peter McDonald.

When is Power Ballad releasing?

The musical comedy Power Ballad will be in theaters on 5th June 2026, as revealed by Lionsgate. The film company is handling the film's distribution.

As reported by Deadline, the film is produced by Rebecca O’Flanagan, Anthony Bregman, Robert Walpole, Peter Cron, and the director, John Carney himself. Last year in May, Variety reported that the production companies involved in the film are Screen Ireland and 30WEST.

It was also revealed then that UTA Independent Film Group, WME Independent, and the production company 30WEST were gearing up to put the film for auction at the Cannes Film Festival.

The cast of Power Ballad explored

Along with Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas, Power Ballad features a splendid cast of actors, including Havana Rose Liu, Marcella Plunkett, and Jack Reynor.

The Golden Globe-nominated actor Paul Rudd is well known for his work in Clueless, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers, Friends, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, I Love You, Man, etc. He is also known for his iconic portrayal of Scott Lang a.k.a. Ant-Man in Marvel films. Rudd will reprise his role again in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

Nick Jonas, who has won hearts with his singing in Jonas Brothers and independently, has also worked as an actor in films including Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Chaos Walking, Love Again, and You're Cordially Invited, to name a few.

Actor and model Havana Rose Liu has previously worked in films and series, including The Sky is Everywhere, Bottoms, Lurker, Hal & Harper, etc.

Marcella Plunkett is seen in the previous films of John Carney, including Once and Sing Street. She has also starred in Swansong: Story of Occi Byrne and Flora and Son, to name a few.

Irish actor Jack Reynor is known for his work in films such as Transformers: Age of Extinction, Macbeth, Midsommar, Cherry, etc. Along with Plunkett, he too had appeared in Carney's films, including Sing Street and Flora and Son.

What is the plot of Power Ballad?

The film follows the plot of two singers, Rick and Danny, whose friendship is initially forged by music. However, it also becomes the element that brings stress to their relationship.

However, Rick finds out that Danny is enjoying the fruits of his labor, as one of his songs is made famous by Danny, and therefore, it resurrects his failing musical career. So now, Rick goes forth to fight for his due acknowledgment, as he is the one who created this song.

As per Deadline, its synopsis goes as follows:

Rick (Rudd), a past-his-prime wedding singer, meets fading boy-band star Danny (Jonas) during a gig. The two bond over music and a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into the hit that reignites his career, Rick sets out to reclaim the recognition he believes he deserves – even if it means risking everything he cares about. The pic is billed as being a feel-good story about music, self-respect, friendship, and the price of ambition.
