Diddy has officially been handed his sentence term for the two counts of transportation for prostitution charges he was found guilty of in his trial. The sentence was announced by Judge Arun Subramanian, who also ordered the convicted rapper to pay $500k fine. The Judge stated in the sentencing verdict:
"A history of good works can't wash away the record in this case. You abused these women. You used that abuse to get your way, freak offs and hotel nights. The evidence of the abuse is massive...A significant sentence is required to deter... The Court is not convinced this would not happen again..This is a serious sentence that reflects the gravity of your crimes and conduct."
Now, DJ Akademiks has commented on the sentence, stating that he believed that the rapper would be out by 2027 or 2028, based on time served ahead of the sentencing. Akademiks stated in a series of X posts:
"With that sentence with 85% required in served time and accounting for his 14 months already served in MDC. Diddy has about 29 months left to serve. Less if there is any reduction for possible drug programs he may be eligible for that would reduce the time.Realistically diddy finna spin back in 2027/2028"
He later added in another X post:
"If diddy qualifies for the RDAP program his 50 month sentence would qualify for him a full year off the existing 85%. Which is 29 when u minus time served. So given that… 17 months. Meaning in about a year he’ll be transferred to a half way house most likely."
The RDAP Program mentioned by DJ Akademiks in this context is the Residential Drug Abuse Program. As per the Federal Prison Time website, under federal law - 18 U.S.C. § 3621 -, prison sentences can be reduced for volunteers under this program, and the program consists of three phases.
Diddy's legal team calls out sentence as "inconsistent"
DJ Akademiks was not the only one to opine on Diddy's sentence. Diddy's own legal team has called out the sentence as unfair and have called out. An attorney on the rapper's team, Alexandra Shapiro, stated:
"That was totally inconsistent with the jury verdict. The Judge acted as a 13th juror. The sentence was driven by the conduct the jury rejected. The jury acquitted Mr. Combs of any coercion."
She later added:
"What is the point of more incarceration for a person like Mr. Combs? He really should be on a path to rehabilitation. He should be able to get treatment. He should be able to start giving back in a way that I think he is uniquely positioned to do, and it seems just senseless to keep him in prison for years more."
She later reiterated that the message of punishment has been made sufficiently to the rapper, and he does not need further prison time to send an anti-domestic violence message.
Diddy was charged with two counts of s*x trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was only found guilty on the last two counts. In addition to this trial, the singer is also facing a number of other lawsuits.
