The Primetime Emmy Award nominations-round voting period is underway, and just like last year, some prospective nominees are set to make cinema history. In 2024, Walt Disney received 183 nominations, with the three most-nominated series of the year, Shogun, The Bear and Only Murders in the Building, being from their production house.

With groundbreaking seasons from some of our favourite series released and phenomenal performances from Hollywood’s finest, the stage is set for history. Possible nominees like Pedro Pascal, Selena Gomez and Seth Rogen might earn some career wins on television’s biggest night.

Continue reading for possible milestones to be achieved for the 2025 Emmy nominations.

Selena Gomez, Pedro Pascal and 8 other nominees who may make Emmy history through nominations in 2025

1) Harrison Ford might earn his first nomination for Shrinking’s second season

The 81-year-old Hollywood icon has never been nominated for an Emmy Award despite his impressive resume in the industry. With a widely praised performance of Paul Rhoades, a therapist with Parkinson’s in Season 2 of Shrinking, Ford might earn his first Emmy nomination when the official list is announced.

2) Seth Rogen might make history for most wins by an individual in one night

Rogen, who plays Matt Remick in the critically acclaimed comedy series The Studio, reportedly has four submissions to the awards. Critics have described The Studio as a natural contender for several nominations this year. Seth Rogen might be on his way to tying the record for most Emmy wins in a single night alongside Moira Demos, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Levy.

3) Pedro Pascal and Andor’s Diego Luna might make history as Latino actors

Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel in HBO’s The Last of Us, and Diego Luna, who has delivered an impressive performance as Cassian Andor in Andor, are strong contenders for Lead Actor nominations. If both of them secure nominations, they’d make history as the first two Latino actors nominated in the same year in their category.

4) Selena Gomez might extend record as most-nominated Latina producer

The Rare Beauty founder and multihyphenate entertainer is currently the most nominated Latina producer in Emmys history, with three nominations for Only Murders in the Building. Gomez might continue to hold that record as the hit Hulu series might secure another nomination in 2025. Selena Gomez also received her first Emmy nomination in 2024.

5) YouTube might secure a major nomination for social media platforms

The spin-off of the popular Hot Ones talk show created by Sean Evans might earn the video sharing and streaming platform YouTube its first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Talk Series. If this happens, YouTube will have its first nomination in a major category—a milestone for non-conventional platforms.

6) Ryan Murphy might help a 14th actor land an Emmy award

Ryan Murphy has a history of turning actors who star in his projects into award winners, such as Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Billy Porter, and Sara Paulson. His latest TV series, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, boasts notable performances from Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Cooper Koch, Chloë Sevigny and Javier Bardem. Any of these names might become the 14th thespian to earn an Emmy award in a Ryan Murphy production.

7) Andor might potentially become the most nominated Star Wars series

The Star Wars franchise is regarded as one of the most incredible things in television history, and some of its series have swept nominations at the Emmys. The Mandalorian aired in November 2019 and earned 24 nominations in its second season. Andor, which follows the story of rebel spy Cassian Andor, is one of the best Star Wars series yet and has the potential to sweep even more nominations in 2025.

8) Tramell Tillman might become the first black actor to win an award for supporting actor

American actor Tramell Tillman, who plays Seth Milchick in the Apple TV series, Severance has showcased remarkable acting, singing and dancing skills in the series’s second season. Critics have praised Tillman’s use of body language to portray a complex character. If the 40-year-old actor wins a nomination, he would be the first Black actor to win in the drama supporting actor category.

9) Kathy Bates might become the oldest lead drama actress nominee

Bates, who portrays an older scheming lawyer on the CBS series Matlock, might be on her way to securing a nomination and becoming the oldest lead drama actress winner. Bates, 76, has already secured a Critics' Choice Award for her role in Matlock. Fans and media keep their fingers crossed to see if the Oscar-winning actress makes history.

10) Elisabeth Moss might make history for directorial and acting roles in The Handmaid’s Tale

Elisabeth Moss, who has won two Golden Globes and two Primetime Emmys, assumed the role of director and executive producer in the last season of The Handmaid’s Tale. Moss directed four episodes in the show’s final season, including the finale. The 42-year-old has also carried the show as a lead actress. If Moss secures nominations for acting and directing, she would become the first woman to be nominated in these two categories for the same series.
