According to the latest updates, Ethan Hawke's 2012 horror film Sinister has found a new streaming home, as horror fans will now be able to watch the nerve-wracking supernatural journey on Tubi for free from this September. The Blumhouse Productions movie holds a 64% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and experts often like to tag it as one of the scariest films of all time.

Scott Derrickson, known for his work in big BO entries like The Exorcism of Emily Rose and Doctor Strange, was at the helm of the project that not only featured a star-studded cast but also took an unconventional approach with the horror genre. The official synopsis of Sinister, per IMDb, reads:

"A controversial true-crime writer finds a box of Super 8 home movies in his new home, revealing that the murder case he is currently researching could be the work of an unknown serial killer whose legacy dates back to the 1960s."

Sinister will be available for streaming on Tubi starting this September

As confirmed by Movie Web, Sinister will reach Tubi on September 1, 2025, which is tomorrow, and the free streaming option is the best part of the update. The Scott Derrickson movie eventually emerged as a box-office hit, bagging around $90 million globally against a budget of just $3 million.

The story centers on a true crime author named Ellison Oswalt (played by Ethan Hawke), whose decision to shift towns with his family turns his life upside down. Ellison, at some point in his life, used to be a successful writer, but lately, his career has gone awry.

As it turns out, the Oswalts have moved to a house that once hosted the Stevenson family (who were brutally murdered a year ago). Upon his arrival at the new home, Ellison stumbles upon several Super 8 film reels in the attic of the house, which eventually lead him to crucial information as well as evidence from actual murders (from 1966 to 2011) - the last one being the hanging of the Stevensons.

Ellison thus finds himself standing at the crossroads, thinking about whether he should hand over murder evidence to the authorities or keep it for his own research and probably the next hit novel. However, once he digs into the footage (that would definitely give anyone a jump scare), he realizes that these are not just random murders.

They are all connected by a 'Sinister' force that revolves around a pagan cult, and it eventually leads Ellison down a dangerous path from which there is no coming back. The Oswalt children start getting haunted by the ghost of Stephanie Stevenson while Ellison tries to balance his work with his psychological turmoil, and by the end of the movie, his work lands his entire family in the grasp of Bughuul, aka Mr. Boogie, the supernatural antagonist.

The new streaming update for Sinister is good news for horror lovers, given the fact that it is a classic, and the exclusive experience comes totally free of cost. Some of the other horror hits currently playing on Tubi, the free ad-supported streaming platform, are Train to Busan, Terrifier 2, Hush, and The Nun.
