Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently filming in Glasgow, and despite that, new cast members are joining the movie. Now, rumors are circulating on the internet that Brand New Day may see the debut of Harry Osborn in the MCU, played by American actor Joe Keery. For the uninitiated, Keery is known for playing Steve Harrington in Stranger Things.
As the name suggests, Harry is Norman Osborn's son, like several other Spider-Man movies in the past suggested. After Norman's death, it is Harry who takes up the mantle of Green Goblin to wreck Peter's life because he figures out Peter's secret. While neither Harry nor Norman has been hinted at in the MCU, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has the opportunity to introduce either one of these two characters.
Explaining the Harry Osborn Spider-Man: Brand New Day rumor
While Willem Dafoe's Norman Osborn/Green Goblin is the primary antagonist of Spider-Man: No Way Home, he does plainly state that neither Oscorp, he, nor his son Harry exists in the MCU. However, fans believe that the MCU version of Norman might be in the shadows as of now.
A popular fan theory a few years ago was that the unknown man Sonny Burch is interacting with over the phone in 2018's Ant-Man and the Wasp could be Norman. If Harry is finally introduced in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it would signify that the Spider-Man franchise is finally ready to move away from James Franco and Willem Dafoe's shadow, who had popularly played Green Goblin in 2002's Spider-Man, 2004's Spider-Man 2, and 2007's Spider-Man 3.
However, it is imperative to note that Stranger Things actor Joe Keery's involvement is not officially confirmed as of now. Therefore, we should take it with a pinch of salt. However, if it does end up being true, then it is a pretty good casting choice on Sony and Marvel's part.
What do we know about Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Brand New Day is set after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, i.e., after Doctor Strange's memory erasure spell. The movie is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who has helmed 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and 2019's Just Mercy. Last week, it was confirmed that Mark Ruffalo's Hulk will finally be seen on the big screen after 2019's Avengers: Endgame.
Moreover, rumors are swirling on the internet that the Hulk in Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the angry savage one rather than the Smart Hulk. But nothing is more exciting than Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle/The Punisher making his debut in the fourth movie, headlined by Tom Holland's Peter Parker. Teasing Frank's role in the movie, Kevin Feige said:
“So when you do that, you say, okay, who are the other street-level characters that we’ve never seen him interact with? And of course, I love that The Punisher started in a Spider-Man comic. That great cover... I don’t want to say too much, but Destin — I will say too much — Destin is doing an amazing job right now on that movie, which starts shooting very soon. And he’s got eight or nine comic covers up on his wall in his art department that he is bringing to life in this movie, which is super cool.”
The summer of 2026 supposedly belongs to Tom Holland and Jon Bernthal, as not one but two films featuring these two actors, Brand New Day and The Odyssey, are releasing within two weeks of each other in July 2026.
