In 1990, the four turtle brothers came out of the sewers and opened on the big screen for the first time. The first film in the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles trilogy became a box office hit and birthed two more sequels that were released in 1991 and 1993.
Now, the trilogy is currently streaming on Paramount+. If you are a TMNT fan, this is a good time to get that subscription and watch the turtle brothers in action.
All the films used Puppeteers and voice acting to present the main characters on screen alongside real actors. James Saito played the main antagonist in the first film, who was replaced by François Chau in its sequel, while a mutated version of him, Super Shredder, was played by Kevin Nash.
Third film didn't feature Shredder, as Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird confirmed following the events of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.
Are there more Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles films?
Following the original trilogy, more films were released later. Though most of them were animated ones.
In 2007, an animated film, TMNT, featuring the voices of Laurence Fishburne, Chris Evans, Patrick Stewart, and more, was released. It again featured their arch nemesis, the Shredder, but this time it was a different character named Karai, the former second in command of the original antagonist.
Seven years after that, we got a reboot film that used motion capture. It featured Alan Ritchson, Noel Fisher, Danny Woodburn, and Pete Ploszek as the four turtle brothers. Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub also lent their voices to the film, the former for one of the turtle brothers, Leonardo, and the latter for Splinter, their master and adoptive father.
There was a sequel to the movie, which arrived in 2016, with the actors portraying the turtles reprising their roles. This time, the creators of the film brought another of the turtle brothers' foes, Kraang.
Most recently, another animated film was released in 2023, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, and a sequel to that film is currently in development. That's currently scheduled for a release on September 17, 2027.
What else is streaming on Paramount+ other than Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?
While you are at it, there are a lot of other films streaming on Paramount+ that you can enjoy.
You can watch The Naked Gun, the fourth film in the spoof comedy franchise starring Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr. Another of Neeson's films, Silence (2016), directed by Martin Scorsese, is available to stream too.
There's the original American Psycho (2000) available to watch on the platform too. Luca Guadagnino is developing a film based on the original novel, which is a new take on the film, with rumors attaching Austin Butler in the lead character of Patrick Bateman.
More films currently available to watch on Paramount+ include Novocaine (2025), Good Will Hunting (1997), No Country for Old Men (2007), Fight Club (1999), and more.
