JID recently appeared on the Dissect podcast with Cole Cuchna. During the podcast, the singer talked about his infamous "Bob The Builder" lyric on the track Community, where he sang about shooting the popular animated character. JID stated in that conversation:"I didn't even think of it as a big deal. Bob the Builder represents someone who come knock down these buildings. Gentrify. That's what I mean... I just kept going, cause it wasn't even about it... it was actually about the next line. The next line matters more. You know what I'm saying. What about the children? When I check a news channel."The singer continued:"Now I'm talking about Palestine, Gaza, all of these things. When I check a news channel, I get a similar feeling but still, we're going to make it to heaven. High water or hell. Gave me chills a bit. All of this stuff that's going on around the world and the kids that are dying. The adults, I mean, we gonna die. But when its the kids, that's when I'm f*cked up about it. So when I said "What about the children?"The singer continued:"You know what I'm saying. We talking about Bob Builders and "what about the children". I think that's just like super cool. Cause the kids watch Bob the Builder and then we talking about true pain and people dying and lives being lost and just a lot of different, you know."JID released the track Community as part of his fifth studio album, God Does Like Ugly. When the track was released, the singer's line drew reactions from the internet, with many questioning at the time what the popular cartoon character had done to the singer.Soon after, the meme 'Bob the Builder is dead' emerged on social media. The meme was that the fictional, popular cartoon character was found dead in Atlanta with three gunshot wounds. The meme was first posted by the Twitter (X) channel Daily Loud, and netizens joined in the meme, jokingly pointing at JID as the suspect.More on JID's fifth studio albumJID's fifth studio album, God Does Like Ugly, was released on August 8, 2025. A history of pain, but prominence. There are lots of different things that Atlanta possesses that you can’t find in most cities. The pungent reek of slavery is still present. If you listen to the song [‘VCR’] with Vince Staples, it speaks to the American experience of the Black man – ‘You want a piece of the American pie? Probably humble you’."JID continued:"That small line is showing you the process of being Black in America – or, not even Black, just a man in America. Vince [Staples] is kind of like my shrink. He’s kind of helped me delve through these issues that I’m speaking to in my verses – police brutality, murders, seeing life through a different light."God Does Like Ugly has been successful since its release. The album has so far charted at the eleventh spot on the Billboard 200 album chart as well as on the seventh spot on the Kiwi album chart.
