Captain Jack Sparrow might be sailing the ship again in the latest installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, along with Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner. Per reports, Johnny Depp is expected to reprise his iconic role in the upcoming franchise project, which will seemingly bring Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom back on the ride.

The update comes from the latest report from The DisInsider. During a discussion about the current rise of sequels and remakes, the publication hinted at Depp's return to the new film's cast, although for a shorter duration. That's because the sixth Pirates project is considered to be a reboot. Here's what was said in Skyler Shuler's report:

"As of now, the only project in development is in the form of a sequel/reboot, which would see key returning characters including Will Turner, Elizabeth Swan, and yes, Captain Jack Sparrow (in a reduced role) as the movie would chart course in a new direction with new characters."

The publication also shared a few more speculations about the project.

"There is no director attached at this time, and when one does sign, I’d expect the script to be retooled. Disney’s D23 Expo would likely be the time we see an official announcement on a new movie."

Besides speaking about the forthcoming project, the publication also spoke about a past iteration of a Pirates movie, which was supposed to bring the Barbie star Margot Robbie as the leading lady to its ensemble cast. According to The DisInsider, Disney will not be going forward with that iteration. It has reportedly hit a dead end at the studio.

"The Margot Robbie-led Pirates movie, which had Bumblebee write, Christina Hobson attached to write, is on hold and likely won’t ever move forward."

Shortly before this update, Orlando Bloom also revealed a few details about the rumored Pirates of the Caribbean 6 project.

Orlando Bloom spoke about his interest in getting "the band together" for a Pirates of the Caribbean film

Orlando Bloom was recently busy promoting his crime comedy film Deep Cover. During one of those interviews in June 2025, the star spoke about the possibility of a new Pirates of the Caribbean film. Here's what he said,

“I personally think it would be great to get the band back together. I think that would be great. But there are always different ideas, so we’ll see where it lands."

He also added,

“There’s been all kinds of things. Who knows? There’s been talk [of a sixth movie]. I can’t say anything at the moment, because I really don’t know. I think they’re trying to work out what it would all look like.”

Based on Bloom's comments, the makers are figuring out a way to flesh out a compelling new entry in the franchise that will do justice to its legacy. The film series began in the early 2000s, and its most recent installment, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was released in 2017. So, the fans must be interested to see another chapter in this adventurous saga.

The recent report from The Disinsider might offer the Johnny Depp fans some hope of his return as the charismatic misfit in a red bandana and a faded waistcoat. Although the report seems promising, please note that we're yet to receive an official confirmation about the cast and crew in Pirates of the Caribbean 6.
