When there's Eddie Murphy and Saturday Night Live's Pete Davidson in a film together, it is bound to be funny. They are both acting in the upcoming comedy film called The Pickup, which Tim Story has directed. Tim Story has given us film series like Fantastic Four and Ride Along.

It will be released this August and will be directly available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Amazon MGM Studios began developing it in 2023, and after casting a fair few faces, the filming for it began in Atlanta last year. While shooting this heist film, something went wrong and a vehicle collision happened, which really left the involved people with physical damage.

Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows have given the screenplay to Tim Story, with Eddie Murphy co-producing alongside John Davis, John Fox, and Charisse Hewitt-Webster. We recently got a trailer of the film, and that already looks fun.

The Pickup is scheduled to release on August 6, 2025. It will be released on the same day as Seth Worley's Sketch, a horror comedy, so that's two comedy movies coming out on the same day.

Other than The Pickup, a few more interesting films are scheduled to be released in the same month. We have Bob Odenkirk's Nobody 2, where we see him again fighting like John Wick. By the end of the month, we will also see Peter Dinklage's black comedy, The Toxic Avenger.

More movies coming in August 2025 include Caught Stealing, Eden, Highest 2 Lowest, and more.

The Pickup trailer breakdown

youtube-cover

Pete Davidson's Travis got laid, and he speaks of it with much excitement to his colleagues. He is the partner of Eddie Murphy's Russell, so this makes it a bit like those buddy cop movies. The difference between them is that Murphy's character is a real pro here, while Davidson's character has taken 15 hours of online training. Things are likely to get really messy here.

It later turns out that both of them have been abducted, and the kidnapper is none other than that same girl who got Travis laid. She wants them to help her steal $60 million she is planning to pull in from a casino. Because if they don't do it, she is going after Russel's wife.
