Tupac Shakur, or 2 Pac, the late American rapper, is considered to be one of the most influential and notable rappers of his generation, with many continuing to revere him and his legacy to date.

Now, a new generative AI video of the late rapper has emerged, showing him linking up with Kobe Bryant, the late Michael Jackson, Biggie, Bruce Lee, Elvis Presley, and Fidel Castro. The video was created by the Sora 2 Generative AI.

This video was shared on X by @raphousetv and has since then gone viral and triggered some reactions, like the tweet quoted below:

"They're missing Prince, Whitney and Luther. Otherwise, this is pretty phenomenal."

Other netizens had more varied reactions, with many criticising and calling it out as creepy, while some were supportive of it:

"This is disturbing. I don't want this. I'm sure no one want this. Anything and everyone could be a bot or AI. Think of all the new scams. We really need to turn these screens off. It is already indistinguihable. Anyone who says otherwise will be a victim maybe eveb more so," one netizen reacted.
"I can’t believe this.. if they do Nipsey this way imma really drop a thug tear. Technology has become a gift and a curse now. It’s like cool to see them in today’s world, but not cool seeeing them in today’s world (if that makes sense) . Feel me?! They should be RESTING," another netizen stated.
"I smiled and laugh when big said to pac the wheel driving itself," one commenter said.
"If y'all don't see how we are approaching proving that Simulation theory is inevitable and real i don't know what to say anymore. One Day we will create a simulation so real, that it will be impossible to remember or distinguish when we entered a new one and left the "real" world," one commentator opined.
"We are technically bringing people back to this reality and it’s so wild to think about," yet another X user wrote.

Tupac Shakur AI content has been used before

This is not the first time Tupac Shakur's voice or likeness has been replicated by generative AI. In 2024, Drake used generative AI to generate Tupac Shakur vocals on the track Taylor Made Freestyle. Drake's track was a diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar.

The rapper ultimately had to take down the track after Tupac's estate sent a cease and desist letter to him over the track:

"The Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac’s voice and personality. Not only is the record a flagrant violation of Tupac’s publicity and the estate’s legal rights, it is also a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. The Estate would never have given its approval for this use."

Drake also faced criticism from a fellow artist over his use of AI-generated vocals of the late singer, with Sheryl Crow stating in a public statement:

"You cannot bring people back from the dead and believe that they would stand for that. I’m sure Drake thought, ‘Yeah, I shouldn't do it, but I'll say sorry later’. But it’s already done, and people will find it even if he takes it down. It's hateful. It is antithetical to the life force that exists in all of us."

There have also been other attempts to use generative AI in relation to the late rapper, including the trailer for an AI-generated documentary on Shakur's life on YouTube.
