Peacemaker Season 2 is releasing this August, meaning it is just a month away. The second season of the John Cena-led HBO Max series is set to begin streaming from August 21, 2025, on the platform. We already know that Isabela Merced's Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl is returning in Peacemaker's second season as Hawkgirl, as confirmed by the trailer.
Despite sharing the actor and the same character, many were wondering if Peacemaker's Season 2 is taking place in the same continuity as Superman, i.e., the DCU or DC Universe. Now, Isabela Merced’s recent comments in a ComicBook.com interview confirm that the events of Superman will set up the events of Peacemaker Season 2.
Her exact words were, “[Superman] definitely ties into the story [of Peacemaker].”
Isabela Merced reveals her experience with the DCU through Superman and Peacemaker Season 2
After confirming that Peacemaker Season 2 and Superman share the same continuity, Merced revealed the actor she enjoyed sharing the screen space with in both the upcoming movie and the second season of Peacemaker:
“What was really fun for me was getting to show my relationship to Maxwell Lord, who is Sean Gunn.”
After expressing her admiration for James Gunn for attracting almost the same cast and crew, the actress revealed that she can work with Gunn again. She also expressed surprise that she enjoyed her experience in the DCU, including sharing scenes with the Justice Gang. The reason behind this surprise is that the DC character she was most familiar with is Batman.
Her comments have fans excited because Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 will be the first time that Hawkgirl will have a wider reach, as before this, the character appeared in animated shows and live-action shows, which have niche appeal and limited reach.

Isabela Merced's DCU Hawkgirl explained?
We already know that Merced is playing the Kendra Saunders version of Hawkgirl in Superman and Peacemaker Season 2. In the comics, Kendra is a descendant of Shiera Sanders Hall, the first Hawkgirl, who is a human. Kendra ends her life, but as soon as she does that, the soul of Shiera enters her body, granting Kendra Hawkgirl powers.
However, the DCU version supposedly does away with Shiera and has the soul of the alien Hawkgirl (probably Shayera Hol, a version of the character from the comics) in her body. This storyline was confirmed by the Hawkgirl actress herself in her May 2025 appearance in the DC Studios Showcase Official Podcast. She explained:
"Kendra is reincarnated, but she’s reincarnated from an alien. So, she has all those memories. The story is actually really dark, it's actually so f*cked up that I wonder how they're going to handle that when it comes to addressing that. I think she carries all of the memories and the traumas and the mistakes of her past lives in her body wherever she goes, so she has a little bit of a grumpy demeanor."
Based on the quote above, we can ascertain that the DCU may have simplified the dense and complicated history of Hawkgirl.
