Jurassic World Rebirth, the much-hyped summer release, is slated to open on July 2. The forthcoming sci-fi action thriller is directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, and is a standalone sequel to 2022's Jurassic World Dominion. Overall, the film is the seventh entry in the Jurassic franchise. Here is the official synopsis, per IMDb:

Five years post-Jurassic World Dominion, an expedition braves isolated equatorial regions to extract DNA from three massive prehistoric creatures for a groundbreaking medical breakthrough.

The film is slated to be released theatrically on July 2, 2025, by Universal Pictures. However, there are chances that Jurassic World Rebirth might not release in IMAX screens, much to the disappointment of fans.

Jurassic World Rebirth might not release in the IMAX screens

Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled to drop on the big screen, and there is a lot of anticipation around the film because the franchise has a hardcore fan base. The presale tickets for the film are available for domestic screens, as it releases on July 2. However, if you look into the options, IMAX screens are missing. The theaters are offering Dolby Cinema and Prime, but there is no IMAX option. This will surely disappoint fans who were planning to catch the film on the biggest screen possible.

The Jurassic World trilogy of films had seen a release in the IMAX format. Interestingly, the first film had the biggest IMAX release of its time. Even the 1993 original, Jurassic Park, which was directed by Steven Spielberg, was re-released on IMAX screens in 3D format.

According to ScreenRant, a reason for Rebirth not getting an IMAX release could be the lack of screens amid several big tentpole releases. Distributors might want to prioritize films like F1 and Superman that are slated to open around the same time in IMAX screens.

In an interview with EW, Gareth Edwards revealed that they shot the film in the swamps. He said:

"I'm allowed to say this now that we’re on the other side of it, but we shot in rivers and these mangrove swamps. When we were scouting them, we saw poisonous water snakes, massive ones that we had to catch. We kept it quiet from the actors as they spent a whole day wading through the same area. And there were giant spiders that were poisonous and stuff on the edge of the trees. You just wouldn't point them out if you saw them. Just keep going!”

The filmmaker added,

“It’s probably the last film I ever shoot in the ocean because it was very difficult. I'm glad we persevered, but I think everybody, all the actors, went through as crazy a journey as the characters in the film, these very physically demanding, sometimes near-death experiences that had these high-reward factors if you managed to succeed.”

Jurassic World Rebirth is scheduled for release on on July 2, 2025.
