The Alison Brie and Dave Franco-starrer body horror Together was released in theaters on 30th July 2025. Upon its release, the film made an impressive opening of $10.9 million.
The indie film has been stirring curiosity ever since its Sundance showcase at the beginning of the year, as it was welcomed with praise. Post its debut at the film festival, NEON acquired its distribution rights.
Helmed and penned by Michael Shanks, this debut film by the director follows the plot of a couple's struggle for survival in the face of a monstrous entity, just when they embark on a new beginning in their lives.
Its synopsis, as per Rotten Tomatoes, goes as follows:
"Years into their relationship, Tim and Millie (Dave Franco and Alison Brie) find themselves at a crossroads as they move to the country, abandoning all that is familiar in their lives except each other. With tensions already flaring, a nightmarish encounter with a mysterious, unnatural force threatens to corrupt their lives, their love, and their flesh."

Analyzing the box office performance of Together
Together made its theatrical release on 30th July 2025, that is, on a Wednesday. As of this writing, the film has garnered a collection of $10,858,502, as per records at Box Office Mojo.
As per Deadline, the film has been screened across 2,302 screens. It has also secured a position of #6 in its domestic collection records. As per the outlet, this is what Elissa Federoff, the Chief Distribution Officer of the distributor company NEON, states:
“It’s very exciting that the studios are out there bringing great titles and filling theaters. As a result, this summer, as an independent, you have to be very intentional about the film you’re releasing and its marketing campaign. You have to put spend behind; you need to be creative and make audiences understand why this is the one that they want to go see this weekend.”
The only country Together has made its release apart from the United States is Australia. It made its release there just a day after its US release, that is, on 31st July 2025. The estimated budget of the film is $17 million. So, looking at its exponential success at the box office, we could perhaps expect it to surpass its break-even point soon.
The real-life couple, Alison Brie and Dave Franco, not only act in the film as a couple, but also produce it as well. Along with them, the film stars Damon Herriman, Mia Morrissey, Karl Richmond, Aljin Abella, and many others.
It feels hopeful to witness such a success and acceptance of horror indie films such as Together, and also several other films of such a kind, such as Final Destination: Bloodlines and Sinners. There is clearly a shift in audiences' perspectives towards horror lately, as many films of this genre are receiving both critical and commercial success.
One must also note that it is refreshing to witness the changing face of horror as well. There has been an advent of exploring the genre in the last year itself, including The Substance, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Nosferatu, Smile 2, Immaculate, Heretic, etc.
And also this year alone, a plethora of films of this genre have been released, such as The Monkey, Heart Eyes, Fear Street: Prom Queen, The Gorge, The Parenting, to name a few. So it seems like the genre of horror is a fertile ground for more possibilities, as well as capturing audiences' interest.
