Together has been extensively shot in Melbourne, Australia, and certain parts of Victoria. This was done to capture the countryside location of the area, which is crucial for the storyline. Melbourne has been a favorite of several Hollywood filmmakers over the years because of the scenic beauty it provides. The shooting took place in several urban areas of the city, especially the outdoor scenes.

2) Docklands Studio, Melbourne

A majority of the indoor scenes of the film were shot at the Docklands Studio in Melbourne. Since Shanks is based out of this city, he might have decided to opt for the studio to create a more controlled location for the indoor shots. The horror in the film unfolds behind closed doors, centering on the couple. This might have been achieved at the studio to create a sense of claustrophobia and loneliness.

In a Slant Magazine interview, Michael Shanks said that he did not want to overexplain the metaphor of the film. He said:

"I never wanted us to be too ahead of the characters, although you know it’s inevitable that a certain amount of the film is going to be spoiled by a synopsis, poster, or trailer. But in terms of the script, when everything’s revealed and we see some of the backstory and some of the explanation, I wanted to give enough space where the brain to fill in the blanks. I recently saw Bring Her Back, and I think they did a beautiful job with it. If a film stops to over-explain its own lore, it can be a little bit like listening to somebody read a Wikipedia page."
