Yesterday, Lili Reinhart was confirmed in the role of Olive Smith in the upcoming rom-com The Love Hypothesis, and now Tom Bateman is confirmed to be starring opposite her as Dr. Adam Carlson, according to Deadline. The film is an adaptation of a story by Ali Hazelwood, who has also written Love on the Brain (2022), Love, Theoretically (2023), Problematic Summer Romance (2025), and more.

Tom Bateman's character will be Olive's love interest in the movie, though it won't be clear at first, but it will be revealed as the story progresses. We can say it is an accidental love spark as Olive kisses the first person she sees to deceive her friend that she is dating a guy. This lucky fella turns out to be Dr. Adam Carlson.

The movie is directed by Claire Scanlon, who is known for TV shows like Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013-2021), Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015-2019), and more. Sarah Rothschild is giving the screenplay and is known for writing The Sleepover.

Hazelwood's story was actually a Star Wars fan fiction that she wrote with Kylo Ren and Rey in mind. What's more interesting is that Adam Carlson's name was inspired by Adam Driver, who played Kylo Ren in the movies.

Interestingly, Tom Bateman is the husband of Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey in the films.
