Musician Jack White ripped into Donald Trump for the latter’s post in the wake of Hollywood legend and political activist Rob Reiner’s death. On Monday (December 15), the White Stripes frontman took to his Instagram and wrote:“Trump, you disgusting, vile, egomaniac, loser, child. Neither he nor any one of his followers can defend this gross, horrible insult to a beautiful artist who gave the world so much. To use someone's tragic death to promote your own vanity and fascist authoritarian agenda is a corrupt and narcissistic sin.”Jack White continued:“Shame on you, Trump and anyone who defends this. God bless you, Rob Reiner and thank you for what you gave the world. I never even met you, and I still stand by you – Jack White III.”White’s post was accompanied by Donald Trump’s apparent tribute to Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, posted on Truth Social on Monday. In it, the U.S. President claimed that Reiner had a “raging obsession” with him, which he termed as “TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” View this post on Instagram Instagram PostExploring further Donald Trump’s reaction to Rob Reiner’s deathVeteran filmmaker, actor, screenwriter, producer, and activist Rob Reiner, 78, died from fatal stab wounds alongside his photographer wife, Michele Singer, 68. They were married for 36 years and shared three children: sons Jake and Nick, daughter Romy.In fact, on December 14 afternoon, around 3:30 PM local time, Romy found her parents unresponsive at their home in Brentwood, Los Angeles. When she called for help, the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived on scene and found both victims dead.As per the latest reports by outlets such as Rolling Stone, the couple’s younger son and screenplay writer, Nick Reiner, 32, has been arrested and booked for the double killings. Meanwhile, LAPD’s Robbery Homicide Division is now investigating the case as “apparent homicides.”The motive behind the killings remains undisclosed. However, Nick Reiner has a history of addiction. In the aftermath of the deaths, Donald Trump shared a post on Truth Social. He began:“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”It is noteworthy that Rob Reiner was a longtime, vocal critic of Trump. The POTUS continued:“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before.”Trump ended his post by dedicating the expression “rest in peace” to Rob Reiner and Michele Singer. Later, during a White House press conference, he doubled down on his social media post about Reiner and Singer. For those unaware, Singer shot Trump for the cover of his 1987 autobiography, Trump: The Art of the Deal. Appearing on POLITICO’s Off Message podcast in September 2017, Rob Reiner shared the anecdote of his wife working with the politician, who was a real estate tycoon at the time.“At one point, they were up in this high-rise that he was constructing, and they were going to take the picture. It was overlooking Central Park, and the wind was blowing, and he said, ‘I gotta get this hairspray. I need this special hairspray,’” Reiner recalled. The When Harry Met Sally maker added: “So, they went downstairs to get it, and when they walked down the street, people’d go, ‘Hey Donald, Donald.’ He was always larger than life, and he was always attractive in that charismatic, celebrity way.”The following year, Rob Reiner jokingly told Gulf News that his wife had a “lot to atone for,” alluding to the Trump book cover. In the same interview, he mentioned wanting to have a “real conversation” and not engage in “propaganda,” but the world wasn’t ready to do that.“We’re in a place right now where democracy is on very shaky ground, in America and all over the world, and the autocrats’ playbook is to sow confusion and insecurity and blame other people for everyone’s lot in life, and then the autocrat comes in and says: I alone can fix this. It happened in Britain with Brexit, and we know how that was funded, and it’s the same playbook with Trump,” he noted at the time.Meanwhile, during the 2017 podcast appearance, Rob Reiner told Isaac Dovere that Trump was reportedly using his campaign funds for his “legal fees.” He also mentioned being at the receiving end of public tirades for having a political opinion despite being a Hollywood member.“Unfortunately, we do listen to celebrities more than we should. I would point to the president of the United States right now. This is a person who is not steeped in policy, is not steeped in government, but is a celebrity, and to use that cliché, it trumps everything,” Reiner said of Trump back then. The Princess Bride director also mentioned that he was concerned for the “health of America” under Trump’s rule and shared his experience of meeting Trump once during a Mike Tyson fight at a casino in the 1990s.“I’ve never met somebody with as big an ego. … Everything that we talked about came back to him. It always came back to him. I understand he’s got his name on everything, but he really is only interested in himself,” Rob Reiner added. However, Reiner admitted that Trump had a “persona” and a “charisma” that resonated with Americans, despite his alleged flaws and vices. As for his recent critique of Trump, Reiner told Rolling Stone in May that the President was trying to “turn this country into a full-blown autocracy.”“And because he’s so dumb and he’s such an incompetent person, he’ll fail, just like he’s failed with everything he’s ever done in his life,” the filmmaker added.Notably, Rob’s father and late TV comic star, Carl Reiner, was also a Trump critic.Jimmy Kimmel and Whoopi Goldberg were among others who slammed Donald Trump for his Rob Reiner post.Meanwhile, Jack White has previously called out Trump after the MAGA camp used his song Seven Nation Army in one of their campaign videos during the 2024 election season. He doubled down on his backlash after Trump won his second term.
