Los Angeles Dodgers professional baseball pitcher Clayton Kershaw went viral on social media recently for his bold fashion choice on the pitch. During the last match between the LA Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants, Kershaw was seen wearing a Pride-themed hat. However, what sparked controversy was not the hat he was wearing, but what he wrote on the side of the rainbow-colored LA logo.

Clayton Kershaw is known to be a devout Christian, and, since June is celebrated in America as Pride Month, his team is showing their solidarity by wearing hats with the rainbow colors on the logo. Clayton showed his support for the LGBTQ+ population, but also had a Bible verse on the cap. The inscribed text says:

"Gen 9:12-16".

According to the Bible, the first two verses Clayton Kershaw sported on his LA Dodgers cap read:

"This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth."

It talks about God making a promise to man to never flood the earth again, and the rainbow is a symbol of God's promise.

More details about Clayton Kershaw and his faith

This is not the first time Clayton Kershaw stood up for his faith. Back in 2013, he protested against his team honoring the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence on Pride Night, right before the game. The reason why Kershaw was against them was that he believed that they made fun of Christianity.

In the professional baseballer's words:

"I don't agree with making fun of other people’s religions... It has nothing to do with anything other than that. I just don't think that, no matter what religion you are, you should make fun of somebody else's religion. So, that's something that I definitely don't agree with."

He clarified that he had no issues with Pride Night or the LGBTQ+ community, saying:

"This has nothing to do with the LGBTQ community or Pride or anything like that. This is simply a group that was making fun of a religion that I don’t agree with."

While Kershaw is seen wearing the LGBTQ+ hat, he is also seen standing firm in his Christian faith, making it clear that his beliefs remain unchanged despite the gesture. Fans are divided online — some think he should stick only to sports, while others have praised Clayton for his bold gesture.
