Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Sean Hjelle of the San Francisco Giants made it to the news headlines recently after his wife, Caroline Hjelle, posted a now-deleted video on TikTok on Friday (June 20, 2025), which she captioned:
"When my MLB husband abandons us on Mothers Day a week after this (video was taken) once I finally found about his affairs and stopped putting up with his abuse, so I’ve been raising two boys alone."
Hjelle had a game against the Red Sox on Saturday and refused to provide the public with any comment regarding the abuse allegations. Before the game, Sean's manager, Bob Melvin, said that the Giants pitcher would play against the Red Sox if needed and that he heard about the allegations the same day the TikTok was posted. Melvin said in a statement:
"Obviously, we're aware... He told me about it last night. We talked with MLB. At this point, it's in their jurisdiction right now, so we really can't comment any further."
As for Sean Hjelle's team, the Giants also released a public statement on June 21, 2025. They clarified that they will not be getting involved and they will let the MLB handle the situation:
"We are aware of these serious allegations... We have been in contact with MLB. These type of allegations fall under their jurisdiction, and we won't be commenting further."
Did Sean Hjelle give any statement about his wife's abuse accusations?
The Giants pitcher did not give any official statement regarding the abuse allegations from his wife; however, he did mention that he would be providing the public with a statement once he had spoken to his manager and lawyer. In Sean Hjelle's words:
"I don't have an official comment right now... I would like to talk to my agent, my lawyer. This has been something that has been going on for over a year now in terms of our relationship, our divorce, our separation and everything. I don't have any official comment right now, I just want to talk to the appropriate people to figure out what the steps are. I'm just taking it in stride right now."
He emphasized:
"No official comment right now. I feel confident saying that I will have one eventually. I don't have an exact timeline on that, but I would like to actually get with the people that are handling the situation with me and for me before I actually make an official statement."
Sean Hjelle did speak about the ongoing divorce process with his wife. He said:
"We reached an agreement in mediation this offseason... In the state of Virginia we had to wait a full year of separation, which was filed last May. So the official divorce decree has been delayed because of me starting in Sacramento, and per the terms of the agreement there were some nuances and what not."
Sean Hjelle concluded by saying that the divorce is happening, even though there are no official comments on the divorce allegations.
"So that part has actually been delayed. But for all intents and purposes the divorce is a signature away from being officially finalized," he confirmed.
While Sean Hjelle has refused to give an official statement regarding his wife's accusations, his team, the Giants, have acknowledged the situation, but will not be meddling with it. The MLB is currently investigating to check if the alleged accusations by Caroline Hjelle are true or not.
