The only recent exception was Oppenheimer, where Caine did not featured. In an interview with NME, Nolan discussed Caine's refusal to act in Oppenheimer, he said:
''I had to go off on my own. OK, I haven’t got Michael Caine, I’d better get Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Kenneth Branagh, Emily Blunt, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Cillian Murphy, Tom Conti, and hoped that all those greats would add up to one Michael Caine.''
He added:
''So many people have helped me, so many people have been there for me, in so many different ways. I’m very moved to receive this, very moved by the presentation. This means the world to me.''
Caine is also known for writing trivia books, including Michael Caine's Moving Picture Show, Not a Lot of People Know This Is 1988, Not Many People Know That!, and Not Many People Know This Either!. He has also published three memoirs: the 1992 "What's It All About?", the 2010 "The Elephant to Hollywood", the 2018 "Blowing the Bloody Doors Off: And Other Lessons in Life", and the 2024 "Don't Look Back, You'll Trip Over: My Guide to Life".
In his recent memoir, Don't Look Back, You'll Trip Over, Caine describes hugging Vin Diesel and declaring to those around, “This is my son!”
