While Avengers: Doomsday is still a year away, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has fans hyped for the MCU team-up movie. It is known that the upcoming Avengers movie will have a huge cast consisting of different Marvel characters and teams. It is known that part of the movie is the X-Men, played by actors from the first three X-Men movies, released between 2000 and 2006.

Thus, we will see Sir Patrick Stewart, Sir Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Alan Cumming, and Kelsey Grammer reprising their X-Men characters in Avengers: Doomsday.

On July 25, 2025, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige gave an interview to Marvel, in which he discussed the role of the mutants in Doomsday. In the interview, Feige teased a larger role for the X-Men in the Avengers movie.

What did Kevin Feige say about X-Men's role in Avengers: Doomsday?

As mentioned before, Feige gave an interview to Marvel in which he discussed the X-Men's role in Avengers: Doomsday. The Marvel boss specifically pointed towards the Baxter Building as seen in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

Teasing that we can expect to see more characters in Doomsday, Kevin Feige went on to say:

"That's always fun. The fun of an Avengers movie is introducing people to each other and seeing how very different personalities get along. In the case of a movie that involves the threat of worlds literally colliding, it's fun to see them visit each other’s homes. So with the Baxter Building set, let's say it had four or five people in it at most in the 'Fantastic Four' movie. And it's got a heck of a lot more people in it [in 'Doomsday']. It’s a thrill to see that interaction. And it's surreal for me, who's been around for 25 years."

Then, Feige looked back at his 25-year-old legacy with Marvel. It must be noted that the first movie featuring Marvel characters he worked on was the X-Men franchise. His history with Marvel kicked off as an associate producer on X-Men, which was released in July 2000. When Kevin Feige was asked what it meant to revisit the same version of X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday, he stated:

"It was another dream that we just didn't think about for many years. Deadpool & Wolverine scratched the surface of that. And now, we’re really delving into it with Doomsday."

Other than Feige, we also learned that the script for Doomsday might not be complete, and it might still be rewritten. We learned it from Mystique actress Rebecca Romijn's recent comments to The Hollywood Reporter's suite at San Diego Comic-Con.

What did Rebecca Romijn say about the Doomsday script?

On July 26, 2025, Romijn was interviewed at San Diego Comic-Con by The Hollywood Reporter. She was asked whether she had finished shooting her scenes in Avengers: Doomsday. To this, she responded:

“[I’m] not quite sure. The script hasn’t — they haven’t finished writing it. It’s been very, very fun, and we don’t know yet. They keep everything very close to the vest themselves in an effort to keep everything under wraps.”

This means that the movie still has a long way to go.
