What role will Meghan Markle play in her return to acting after 7-year break? Duchess joins star-studded cast for new comedy

Meghan Markle is reportedly making her return to acting with Jason Orley's film Close Personal Friends. In the film, the Duchess of Sussex is said to appear as herself, according to People.

According to the movie's IMDb description, the film is based on:

"Two couples - one famous, one not - meet in Santa Barbara and become fast friends."

The main cast includes Jack Quaid, Brie Larson, Patti Harrison, and Lily Collins. As of now, IMDb has not listed Meghan Markle in the cast. Additionally, Meghan has also not talked about the role publicly on social media. The comedy movie doesn't have a confirmed release date as of now.

When was Meghan Markle seen filming Close Personal Friends?

According to People, Meghan was seen on the set of the comedy movie in Pasadena, California, on November 5. Speaking of the role, a close source told the outlet:

"Meghan was on the set today. She has a small part. She seemed very relaxed and happy. She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth."

Another insider told The Sun:

"This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves. She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right. It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set."

This will be her first acting project in seven years. In 2017, Meghan Markle told Sky News that she was ready to move away from acting through the statement:

"I don't see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change. It's a new chapter, right? And also, keep in mind, I've been working on [Suits] for seven years. We were very, very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series…I've ticked this box, and I feel very proud of the work I've done there, and now it's time to work with [Harry] as a team."

In another interview with Variety held in 2022, when asked about her acting, she said:

"I'm done. I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not."

In her recent talk with Aspire host Emma Grede, Markle also shared that she misses acting and being around the crew. She last appeared in Suits, according to IMDb. However, Meghan was quite active as a producer with her recent works, like With Love, Meghan, released on Netflix, and Polo, where she worked as an executive producer.

With news of her new role, fans are excited to see Meghan Markle returning to the screen after so many years.
