John Banas was a writer, producer, and actor, and father of actress Michala Banas. On November 4, Michala Banas uploaded an Instagram post announcing the death of her father through a tribute. The caption read:

"Yesterday, my Dad John died suddenly. I am utterly heartbroken and in complete shock. And even though I’m a grown woman, the kid in me wants the world to stop and know how amazing he was."

Talking about the photos uploaded in the post, she added:

"And so I post these few pics of a beautiful man with his adoring (and often silly) daughter. Did I say he was amazing? You need to know that. All of you. ♥️ Love you beyond words Dad X"

John Banas's first project, according to IMDb, was Buck House, where he provided additional material. Over the years, he reportedly wrote many hit shows, some of which include Water Rats, City Homicide, E Street, and Murder Call. Last year, he contributed as a writer to the TV series A Remarkable Place to Die.

According to IMDb, John Banas also had an upcoming project titled The Passenger. However, its release date hasn't been revealed so far. Alongside, he also worked as a producer in Water Rats, Murder Call, and E Street, and as a director in Mirror, Mirror, E Street, and Emma: Queen of the South Seas.

According to the production company, Banijay, John Banas was:

"a recipient of the Prix Italia for Best Educational Script and, in 1997 and 2001 won the Australian Writers Guild Award for Best Script in a Television Series."

One of his most famous projects was Siege, which earned two awards in the New Zealand Film and TV Awards and one award in the Sichuan TV Festival, adding to his recognition.

He also talked about his early days on his website by writing:

"I’ve always been a performer. Ask my mum. I wanted to be a clown when I was little. I made it eventually. Ask my friends. I started out as an actor, proper, when I was in my early teens - joining a drama group when I was a kid, continuing on in Uni and eventually quitting my studies after a year because I landed my first professional job."

Talking about how he started writing, he added on this website:

"It started with the late-night satirical reviews on stage, and then radio. I loved writing for radio and would still do it in a heartbeat if there was a market."
