American actor and SAG-AFTRA president Sean Astin has a total net worth of $8 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. Astin began acting at the young age of 14 and made a name for himself in Hollywood with his debut film. He appeared in The Goonies in 1985 and played the role of Michael "Mikey" Walsh. Later on, Sean acted in another world-renowned movie, Rudy, playing the role of Daniel Ruettiger.

However, Sean Astin's role as an actor was sealed after his appearance in Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings film. He played the role of Samwise Gamgee, a chief supporting character. He was a loyal companion to Frodo Baggins, the protagonist. In addition to being an actor, Astin's net worth also comes from being a voice actor on shows such as Special Agent Oso and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He also played the role of Bob Newby in Netflix's Stranger Things.

The majority of Astin's net worth came from his time on The Lord of the Rings franchise. Celebrity Net Worth reported that he earned $250,000 just from the first film. He received raises for the sequels, but not royalties from the other films. He was paid one-time for promoting The Lord of the Rings merchandise during the third movie.

What did Sean Astin say about OpenAI's Sora 2?

Sean Astin is strongly against using OpenAI's Sora 2 without the individual's consent. He calls it a "tsunami" during an interview with TMZ. In his words:

"Everybody knows that the AI technology is a tsunami that's washing over us. But those who are in a position of leadership to try and put in some guardrails. We see what's happening and we know what to do."

He also shared with TMZ the different ways the government can help by imposing rules and regulations. He continued:

"It's the government. The government has to say, you know, it's illegal. Right now, Governor Newsom, he signed one today, and we're hoping he signs another one today that would make it criminal to steal someone's information."

Sean Astin also spoke about the "Opt-out" policy, calling it "ridiculous." According to him:

"Opt out is ridiculous. Opt out is they do whatever they want, and if you happen to catch them, they go, 'Oh, well if you don't want to be a part of it you didn't really tell us soon enough, so you know, tough luck on that, and I guess in the future we won't use it."

He added:

But what we have to stop is the lawlessness of people just taking anything they can find from the internet, anything they can put from any movie, any studio network. All from the beginning of time and just shove it in there and be like, 'Oh, hey, well we can't tell.'"

Sean Astin finally justified his statements with an analogy. He said:

"I got a metaphor or an analogy for you: 'You can break into a jewelry store. You can break the case. You can spread all the diamonds on the floor, and you can make the prettiest picture ever, right? You designed that but they're not your f**king diamonds.'"

Sean Astin continues to make an impact both on and off screen, using his platform to speak out on important issues like AI ethics. His stance on OpenAI's Sora 2 reflects his belief that creativity should always come with consent and respect for the original creators.
