Is the Sith Dagger scene probably the worst in the Star Wars franchise? Here's what we think

George Lucas is the creator of the popular American science fiction franchise Star Wars. It began with a film in 1977 and has since evolved into a number of television shows, films, novels, games, and toys. Fans all throughout the world enjoy Star Wars for its compelling characters, dramatic battles, and music.

The story takes place in space and follows the battle between the good Jedi and the evil Sith, both of whom use a power known as the Force. While the Sith seek power, the Jedi strive for peace. They use lightsabers, which are specialized weapons. The primary films center around the Skywalker family.

The Sith dagger sequence in The Rise of Skywalker has been the subject of renewed criticism due to a recent YouTube video that highlights how it only functions if Rey stands in a specific location—an improbable coincidence. Even if tie-in novels try to explain how it started, a lot of viewers and fans still think it's a poor story device.

The Sith dagger, a mystery weapon that is said to hold the secret to Emperor Palpatine's hiding location and its appearance is one of the most contentious scenes in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The dagger's placement within the narrative has been criticized by several fans, commentators, and content producers.

The primary problem is highlighted in a recent video by YouTuber JDAWG: the dagger only functions if Rey is in the precise right location at the precise moment, which calls into question the scene's logic.

The film introduces the dagger as an old Sith artifact. It contains a hidden hint etched in the prohibited language, ur-Kittât, that leads to the Wayfinder, the instrument required to reach Exegol. When Rey and her allies arrive at Kef Bir, an ocean moon, they use the dagger to find the second Death Star's ruins. Rey extends a blade from the dagger's hilt, aligning its edges with the fallen ruins. By doing so, she can see the exact location of the Wayfinder.

However, a lot of spectators are perplexed by this moment. Only because Rey is standing in a single location that the dagger's outline blend in flawlessly with the Death Star wreckage as it stands. The dagger wouldn't line up properly if she were a few feet out to the side or if the wreckage had moved a little over time. Even in a hypothetical universe like Star Wars, it is difficult to accept this degree of coincidence.

The dagger's age is another problem. It is said to be ancient and was allegedly made when the Sith Empire existed. However, it coincides with wreckage from a fight that took place just a few decades ago. How was it possible to modify an old dagger to match undiscovered ruins?

Some clarification is provided in the book Shadow of the Sith. It implies that in order to assist Ochi of Bestoon, an assassin, in finding the Wayfinder, the Sith Eternal altered the dagger following the destruction of the Death Star. The blade had been upgraded lately, so it wasn't merely old. However, not all fans are happy with this explanation.

The Sith dagger scene is frequently used as an example of bad narrative. Fans of Star Wars expect internal logic and consistency, despite the fact that the franchise is known for fantasy and mystery. This sequence feels more like a shortcut than a well-planned story element. Whether it's the "worst" moment in the franchise is debatable, but it's undoubtedly one of the most perplexing.
