Charlize Theron's 2020 superhero hit will soon see the release of its sequel, dubbed The Old Guard 2. The first film holds an 80% critical approval on Rotten Tomatoes based on 285 reviews as of this writing. It was primarily shot in Morocco, the United Kingdom, and more. For the sequel, the primary location was changed to Italy.

While Italy was the primary location for this, other regions were used for filming too. The United Kingdom again was one of those locations. Another one of the locations was used for the film's reshoots too.

The film will continue the story of the immortals, who became a subject of experiment in the last film. However, there's more to the experiment for the medical research. It involves greed and fantasies that involve torture.

Several of the cast members, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, and more, will return in The Old Guard 2.

Rome is the home of the largest film studio in Europe, Cinecittà Studios. A major chunk of The Old Guard 2's filming happened only here. Iconic filmmakers including Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Mel Gibson, and more have worked with the studio. Some of the famous films that were shot here include The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999), Gangs of New York (2002), Conclave (2024), and more.

Cernobbio

Cernobbio has a different charm when it comes to natural beauty, and several films have featured this location. Some of those popular movies include Ocean's Twelve (2004), The Other Man (2008), Devil in the Brain (1972), and more.

Riva di Solto

Several outdoor scenes were shot at this location, according to 4filming. It's a small region located on the western shore of the fourth-largest lake in Italy's Lombardy region, called Lake Iseo.

It seems like The Old Guard 2 is the only location featuring this location, according to IMDb. However, Bergamo, where Riva di Solto is located, has been featured in a number of films, including Call Me by Your Name (2017), The Tree of Wooden Clogs (1978), and more.

Trieste

While The Old Guard sequel was partly shot here, another sequel of one of the greatest and most influential films features this location: The Godfather Part II. A fun fact about that is one of the actors had Trieste as his surname, Leopoldo Trieste, who played Signor Roberto in the movie.

Other than Italy, a few more locations were used for filming. One of them is Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, which was used for the film's reshoots. The United Kingdom is mentioned as one of the filming locations at IMDb, but there are no more details on what scenes were shot there.

France is likely to be another filming location because we can see an aerial shot of the Arc de Triomphe in the film's trailer. At the 0:48 minute mark, you can see a glimpse of this iconic monument that's been standing for over a couple of centuries today.

The Old Guard 2 will release on July 2, 2025.
