Zach Cregger's Weapons has been one of the most exciting indie projects to come out in 2025. This mystery horror film, set in a small town, deals with supernatural elements.
The film is Cregger's follow-up project to Barbarian, a psychological horror film that follows a woman showing up at her Airbnb to attend a job interview. Things take a dark turn soon after she enters the house. It's one of those films where the less you know about the film beforehand, the better. Weapons, starring Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, and more, seem to be heading in the same direction.
Warner Bros. Pictures has released two trailers so far. However, they reveal very little about the plot. Yet, it's enough to create a buzz around this project. While we don't know everything, we do know that the film takes place in a small town, which makes its horrors pop out even more. According to 4filming, the film used locations from Atlanta, Georgia, to achieve that.
Let's see how Cregger shot his new movie in Georgia.

Atlanta, Georgia

Weapons, produced by New Line Cinema, was scheduled to start filming in May 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia, as per a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
The film follows a group of children who mysteriously disappear one night at the same time, without any explanation. So, it sets up a horrifying chain of events within its close-knit community in a small town. It seemingly tears the foundation of comfort and safety that they took for granted. So, Atlanta might have been an ideal location to establish its eerie narrative tone.
The town offers an ideal mix of shooting locations and top-of-the-line production equipment to get the best of both worlds. It must have been ideal for Zach Cregger and his team to capture the horrors without losing out on the logistical benefits of shooting with the robust support of the regional film community.
There are no official reports on specific filming locations for Weapons, but based on the trailers, the crew may have used local schools and residential areas for the shoot. There are also shots of missing children seemingly appearing in the woods. So, the crew may have used the local wilderness to build its haunting environment.
More details on Zach Cregger's mystery horror Weapons

Weapons, Zach Cregger's indie horror film, has been a point of discussion since even before the crew rolled the cameras on the production. The script, written by Cregger, was part of a heavily contested bidding war among many studios, including Get Out director Jordan Peele's Monkeypaw Productions.
Some reports suggest that Peele was so invested in securing the rights for this movie that he parted ways with his management team for failing to secure them. It gives you an idea of how wild Cregger's idea must have been. That added an extra bit of excitement surrounding this project, which was already gaining plenty of traction with the trailers.

While the trailers show a part of what we're about to witness, the film is supposed to be even more twisted. It will reportedly have multiple interwoven stories, much like Paul Thomas Anderson's 1999 film, Magnolia. Cregger seemingly confirmed it during his conversation with Entertainment Weekly. He hinted that, even if they center around different ideas, they share the DNA.
While praising Anderson's "epic" film with an "unapologetic" vision, Cregger said,
"I love that movie. I love that kind of bold scale. It gave me permission when I was writing this to shoot for the stars and make it an epic. I wanted a horror epic, and so I tried to do that."
Warner Bros. Pictures will release Weapons in theaters on August 8, 2025.
