Who is Anca Faur’s son, Vlad Ghenciu? What we know as Buzz Aldrin’s wife passes away

Retired NASA astronaut Buzz Aldrin’s wife, Dr Anca Faur Aldrin, passed away on October 28. She was 66. According to PEOPLE, she succumbed to a rare and aggressive form of cancer. The Faur and Aldrin families issued a joint statement via Facebook, shared on Buzz Aldrin’s profile.

“Dr Anca Aldrin, wife of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, peacefully passed away last night with her husband and her son, Vlad Ghenciu, by her side,” the post began.

Vlad Ghenciu is a Los Angeles-based personal injury attorney who also specializes in civil litigation, trial law, employment law, criminal defense, business disputes, real estate law, and insurance coverage.

An accompanying quote from General Aldrin read:

“I am so fortunate to have found and married the love of my life. She brought joy to everything we did together. I will miss her dearly.”

The families have requested privacy as they navigate through the loss.

According to Hora in America, Vlad Ghenciu was born in June 1986 in Timisoara, Romania, and later relocated to the USA when he was five. Originally, he grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where his mother, Anca Faur, and his father were pursuing their respective doctorates in chemical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh.

Later, the family moved to Charleston, West Virginia, in 1996, when Anca Faur joined Dow Chemical (formerly Union Carbide). Four years later, Vlad Ghenciu, along with his parents, moved to Philadelphia, where he attended high school.

Anca Faur’s son graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., in 2007, with a Bachelor of Science degree in foreign service and international politics, according to his LinkedIn. Subsequently, in 2012, Vlad Ghenciu earned his Doctor of Law from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.

He also pursued several courses on civil jury trial advocacy from the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office, Plaintiffs’ Trial Academy, and Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles.

Vlad is a member of the State Bar of California and the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), where he is an associate-level trial lawyer. During the start of his law career, Ghenciu worked at the LA City Attorney’s Office, the LA County District Attorney’s Office, ClassAction.com, and Jennifer Duffy, APC law firms.

Later, he joined Jacobson & Associates as a litigation attorney, a trial lawyer at Allstate, and a litigation and trial attorney at SP Law Group. According to superlawyers.com, Vlad Ghenciu has been a licensed personal injury lawyer since 2013, primarily operating in California. He is now a founding partner, president, and owner at V|R Ghenciu Attorney At Law, A Prof Corp.

As a Romanian-American, Ghenciu served as the Vice President of Viitorul Roman Cultural & Aid Society before becoming the President of the Romanian-American Chamber of Commerce in Los Angeles, the oldest bilateral trade association in the USA.

Vlad is married to Haley Ghenciu. The couple has three children: Kaia Nicole, 5, McCali Karen, 7, and Scarlett Anca, 1.

After a five-year-long courtship, Dr Anca Faur exchanged wedding vows with Buzz Aldrin on his 93rd birthday in January 2023. She was his fourth wife.

Mrs Aldrin was a chemical engineer who worked at the London-based Johnson Matthey for over two decades, before serving as the treasurer for the California Hydrogen Business Council and the Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC.

Earlier, during an April 2023 conversation with PEOPLE, the former United States Air Force fighter pilot called his wife “the whole Wizard of Oz package,” who had “brains, heart, and courage.”
