Anca Faur’s cause of death revealed as 'rare kind of cancer': Buzz Aldrin’s wife remembered for her strength and courage amid aggressive disease

American former astronaut Buzz Aldrin lost his wife, Anca Faur, on Tuesday, October 18, 2025. According to an exclusive report by People magazine, Anca lost her life after a battle with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer.

A friend of the couple, Bobby Charles, shared details of Anca Faur’s last moments. He described her cancer as very rare and aggressive. He claimed the deceased “fought it valiantly" for "quite some time” but ultimately lost the battle and died on Tuesday.

“I don't know that I've ever seen a more positive and courageous and loving effort to live and fight for more time.”

He added:

“Even if I was talking to her a month ago, I still would've been optimistic.”

Charles also discussed the relationship Buzz Aldrin and his wife shared in her final moments.

“They had a very, very, very tight relationship. He's holding up...but this was tragic. And he loves her to the ends of the world. And I think it's something that nobody predicted, so it's just difficult to manage.”

He added:

“They were so devoted to each other. I can't tell you.”

Buzz Aldrin and Anca Faur tied the knot in 2023. Buzz announced his marriage on X.

“On my 93rd birthday & the day I will also be honoured by Living Legends of Aviation, I am pleased to announce that my longtime love, Dr. Anca Faur & I have tied the knot.”

He added:

“We were joined in holy matrimony in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles & are as excited as eloping teenagers.”

Buzz’s wedding to Faur marks the former astronaut’s fourth marriage. He was previously married to Joan Archer, Beverly Van Zile, and Lois Driggs Cannon. Buzz and Anca were married for two years before she died. Her family announced on Facebook.

“Dr. Anca Aldrin, wife of astronaut Buzz Aldrin, peacefully passed away last night with her husband and her son, Vlad Ghenciu by her side. Mrs. Aldrin, an accomplished chemical engineer with a Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, served as the treasurer for the California Hydrogen Business Council and as Executive Vice President of Buzz Aldrin Ventures LLC.”

The statement concluded:

“Her family requests privacy in their time of mourning.”
