Earlier this week, reports surfaced that rapper Nicki Minaj unfollowed her longtime hairstylist, Arrogant Tae, on Instagram. This followed Tae hanging out with Ice Spice in Paris. Ice Spice has previously had a feud with Minaj.

Arrogant Tae, 30, whose real name is Dionte Gray, is a well-known celebrity hairstylist and wig specialist in the United States. He has worked with well-known figures like hip-hop artist Teyana Taylor and model Keyshia Ka’oir.

Tae also has more than seven years of experience working with Minaj. In a July 2024 interview with Rolling Out, he discussed collaborating with the rapper on her viral "Barbie Dreams" music video.

“I’m a perfectionist, and this is my passion, so I give it my all every single time. Nicki showed me what she wanted and advised me to hire a few people to work for me on the video,” Arrogant Tae stated.

He continued by saying how there were “numerous wigs” that needed to be colored, cut, and styled, and he did each of them on his own, following Nicki Minaj’s “vision.”

Everything you need to know about Arrogant Tae

Arrogant Tae, born Dionte Gray in March 1995 in Chicago, Illinois, is a hairstylist, wig artist, and social media influencer with over 2.4 million followers on his @arrogant_tae123 account. He has been regularly uploading hair transformation and styling content there since May 2012.

Tae owns a brand called The Flawless Experience, which has the tagline:

“Beauty is more than what you see – it’s how you feel.”

According to Famous Birthdays, Dionte attended Paul Mitchell’s school, where he learned about different haircuts, including razors and layers. During an August 2024 interview with Galore Magazine, Arrogant Tae shared that his aunts and mother doing each other’s hair sparked his interest in the field from a young age. They also owned a salon where he learned haircare and transformations.

Gray also revealed that his first celebrity client was Porsche Williams from the Housewives of Atlanta, who needed a hairstylist in Chicago for her appearance on The Steve Harvey Show. At the time, he was still working at a salon in downtown Chicago.

Later, he moved to Atlanta in 2015 and kick-started his independent career as a wig and hair color expert as well as a stylist. Arrogant Tae was also a cast member on the BET+ reality show, The Impact Atlanta, from 2022 to 2023. He now works across Chicago, Atlanta, and New York and has collaborated with A-listers including Rihanna, Kylie Jenner, DreamDoll, Kim Kardashian, Tabatha Robinson, and Ariana Fletcher.

“Our hair is an extension of our personalities, and I believe a woman should wear her hair however she feels beautiful,” Tae said in an interview with Rolling Out last year.

About working with Nicki Minaj, he explained how, for the Barbie Dreams video, he had to “install and remove” each wig with a specific color, style, and cut.

“With her, time is money. I told her I didn’t need an assistant or anyone else to help me… I did every single wig and installed each one, and was on time. Some people couldn’t believe it, but I knew I could do it because that’s how seriously I take my work,” Tae explained.

In January 2022, Dionte went viral for his YouTube video “Arrogant Tae Swoop Tutorial on @TheRealKyleSister.” In January this year, Tae went viral after pictures of his date night with La La Anthony surfaced online.
