Latto and Nicki Minaj's feud began three years ago in 2022. It started when Nicki Minaj got on Instagram Live to talk about one of her songs being moved from the Rap category to Pop. Nicki has been nominated for a Grammy 10 times over the past years, but has yet to win a title. The Super Bass rapper was not happy about the fact that her song Super Freaky Girl was moved to pop when she rapped in it exclusively.

Minaj also said that Hotline Bling was considered a rap song instead of pop because of Drake's "race and past music". She also questioned how Latto's Big Energy qualified as a rap song when it had more of a pop vibe to it.

During the live video, Nicki said:

"If 'Super Freaky Girl' is a pop song, what genre is ‘Big Energy?'"

Keep reading to know what Nicki Minaj said that prompted Latto to spit back.

What did Nicki Minaj say about Latto that started their feud?

During the live video, Nicki Minaj had a few things to say about her song being moved to the pop category. In her words:

"They stay moving the goalpost for me... If you can't tell by now that there is a concerted effort to give newer artists things that they really don't deserve, over people who have been deserving for many years, then you're not paying attention. And soon female rap will really not have any black women."

Minaj also brought up Alyssa Michelle Stephens a.k.a. Latto's parent's who are black and white. She said that Stephens was:

"Black when it's beneficial," and even called the Muwop singer a "Karen."

Nicki is also targeting Latto's song Big Energy, by tweeting:

"I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY. If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll. I’d actually LUV 2 c a more street record win- male OR female! IJS."

After being the focus of Nicki's tweet, Latto shot back, writing on X:

"Damn I can't win for losing… all these awards/noms I can't even celebrate"

To this, Minaj responded by calling her a Karen. The Super Bass singer wrote:

"This Karen has probably mentioned my name in over 100 interviews. Says she waited in line for Pink Friday w/her Barbie chain on, bangs, pink hair..but today, scratch off decides to be silent; rather than speak up for the Black woman she called her biggest inspiration."

In her now-deleted tweet, Nicki Minaj appeared to take a subtle jab at Latto without naming her directly. She also attached a screenshot of what seemed to be a private message from Latto, which reads:

"I agree with you, however, because of where we left off ion think u need to bring my name/song up to prove ur point."

Alyssa responded to these tweets, saying:

"With all this being said this wasn't JUST about a Grammy category... U being funny bringing me up to defend ur case knowing our last convo didn't end on good terms. U literally told me I'm not 'flourishing' and no one cares about my 'little song' otp lol"

The Big Mama rapper called Nicki Minaj a "40 year old bully" and "super freaky grandma". She also pointed out the fact that Nicki has been feuding with many other female artists in the industry. She wrote:

"Everybody ain’t lying on you! We see the pattern! BFFR!"

The feud between Latto and Nicki Minaj began over Grammy category disputes but quickly escalated into a heated exchange of personal insults and accusations. What started as a discussion about fairness in the rap industry turned into a public fallout between the two artists. Years later, Stephens said on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, saying she is open to "rekindling" with anyone.
