English-Australian actor Ben Lewis has passed away at the age of 46 after battling with bowel cancer. The news was announced by his friend, Todd Woodbridge, in an Instagram post. The caption of the post read:

"Today we lost Ben Lewis one my families dearest friends way to young and the Australian Musical Theatre family also lost one of the greats! Ben was a star on stage as Phantom in Love Never Dies and In Phantom of the Opera on the West End.. more importantly he was one of the great humans, funny, caring and a wonderful mentor to all of the people he work with."

Ben was the son of opera singers Michael Lewis and Patricia Price. He has been active in the entertainment industry since 2001. Lewis studied arts at Sydney University, trained in voice at the Royal College of Music, and later attended WAAPA. He was married to Melle Stewart at the time of his death.

Ben Lewis was famous for Love Never Dies, where he played the role of the Phantom. He gained recognition from the 2001 TV series McLeod's Daughters. Soon after Love Never Dies, he also appeared in many TV series, including Doctors and The Beautiful Lie. His last reported appearance, according to IMDb, was in the TV series EastEnders, released in 2020.

Additionally, he also appeared in many theaters, some of which include Love Me Tender, The Bodyguard, Metro Street, and A Little Night Music. He was also nominated for a Helpmann Award and won a Judith Johnson Award for his performance in Love Never Dies.

Ben's brother Alexander also launched a GoFundMe for the actor, writing:

"In February last year, our beloved Ben was diagnosed with bowel cancer. He had no symptoms but by the time it was discovered, the cancer had already spread to his lymph nodes and liver."

He further revealed:

"Following major surgery to remove the primary tumour, he began intensive chemotherapy treatment. Despite his strength and determination, the cancer has proved to be quite aggressive and resistant to the chemotherapy drugs."

Ben’s cancer was confirmed as incurable by his brother, Alexander. It has raised $183,749 AUD so far, with a goal of reaching $200,000.
