American contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, and worship leader Chris Tomlin performed at the Charlie Kirk memorial, which took place at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on September 21.
Tomlin sang his hit number Holy Forever from his fourteenth studio album, Always, which was released in 2022. He was joined at the memorial by other performers, including Brandon Lake, Phil Wickham, Cody Carnes, Kari Jobe Carnes, Lee Greenwood, and Steve Amerson, according to Billboard.
Chris Tomlin is married to Atlanta native and makeup artist Lauren Bricken, and the pair has three daughters.
Two days after Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley University campus on September 10, Chris Tomlin paid him tribute via an Instagram post. Sharing a picture of the Kirk family, Tomlin wrote in the caption:
“My heart and prayers to Erika Kirk and her 2 children… what a tragic moment for our nation. I appreciate how Charlie was bold and unashamed in his faith… ‘THE FURTHER A SOCIETY DRIFTS FROM THE TRUTH, THE MORE IT WILL HATE THOSE THAT SPEAK IT.’”
Over 100,000 people attended Charlie Kirk’s public memorial on Sunday. President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance attended the ceremony alongside tech billionaire Elon Musk.
Exploring Chris Tomlin’s family life
Chris Tomlin, whose full name is Christopher Dwayne Tomlin, was born in May 1972 in Grand Saline, Texas. At 13, he began singing at the local Main Street Baptist church and wrote his first worship song at 14. He was taught to play a guitar by his father and grew up listening to country music bands like Alabama.
During a September 2022 interview with E! News, he shared coming from a “small town in East Texas” where there was “one Dairy Queen and one red light” with a population of 2,500.
Tomlin continued,
“Now, I live in a small town outside of Nashville. I love to do things with my family. I'm a girl dad, and even when I'm on the road, people who would be around me would think I'm a pretty ordinary guy.”
Chris Tomlin walked down the aisle with Lauren Bricken in November 2010. They have three children, Ashlyn, 13, Madison, 10, and Elle Grace, 4.
According to her LinkedIn, Bricken has been a professional makeup artist for weddings, print, and corporate video productions since 2008. She is a native of Atlanta, Georgia, and attended Auburn University. Lauren is also a women’s coordinator at Adventures of the Heart.
Speaking with E! News, Tomlin shared that in his free time, he enjoyed watching Yellowstone or 60 Minutes with his wife or attending live concerts, including those of Coldplay. The couple also goes on rare night-outs with their children.
Back then, Chris stated,
"It's the greatest thing I've ever seen. It's amazing to sit in a seat and get another side of the concert life. Coldplay is unlike anything I've ever seen,"
He also mentioned taking his girls to school every day and listening to all kinds of songs with them, especially the ones from new movies.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in 2020, Chris Tomlin spoke about making the song Miracle of Love inspired by his wife’s third pregnancy. He also shared his gratitude following the birth of Elle Grace and called her a “surprise of all surprises.”
He shared at the time,
"Isn't she lovely … Isn't she wonderful … Elle Grace Tomlin has arrived to our world and we couldn't be more grateful. She is precious and beautiful. Babies are miracles. Lauren and I are counting our blessings and soaking up our little 'miracle of love.' Time seems to stand still at the moment."
Tomlin, 53, added,
“It's an incredible privilege to be a dad with these girls, and especially girls, I feel like there's a special thing that a dad has with girls, and so I'm really grateful.”

According to an April 2019 article by The Tennessean, Chris Tomlin is a “funcle” or foster uncle to four special medical needs children, his two brothers, and their wives, adopted after serving as their foster parents. Chris’ brothers Ryan and Cory are both married to nurses and have their biological children as well.
Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Chris Tomlin has been regarded as the "most often sung artist in the world," as his songs are regularly sung at churches worldwide. His most popular songs include How Great Is Our God, Whom Shall I Fear, and Holy Forever.
Charlie Kirk, 31, was fatally shot in his neck while speaking at a Turning Point USA event called The American Comeback Tour at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on September 10.
