Corey Adams, an 18-year-old from New Orleans, Louisiana, enrolled at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) as a freshman, died in a shooting incident on the night of Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Cordova, Tennessee, according to The Guardian.

He was a standout defender at Edna Karr High School, earning All-State honors twice and ranked as a 3-star recruit, around No. 21 in Louisiana and No. 57 edge defender nationally, as per reports by Fox8Live.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office announced in a statement on Sunday that they found Adams with gunshot wounds in the car; despite life-saving efforts from deputies and Shelby County Fire, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

They also said that upon arrival on the scene of the shooting, they had found multiple shell casings, and four other men were also shot and taken to hospitals in noncritical condition, as per reports by FlashScore. Ole Miss Football wrote a statement on X following Adams' passing. They wrote:

''While our program is trying to cope with this tragic loss, our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. Out of respect for his family, we will not be commenting further at this time. We ask the Ole Miss community to keep Corey in their thoughts and respect the privacy of everyone involved.''

The Karr Cougar football team also wrote a Facebook post:

''Words can’t describe this type of pain. We are heartbroken and tormented to pieces. ... Corey Adams was more than a football player! He was a friend, brother, son, student and all-around great young man. We never question God, but this is one we just don’t understand. This wasn’t supposed to be the end of his story.''

The authorities are still investigating the case, and no suspects have been named or arrested as of now.
