Who was Judy Loe? British actress and mother of Kate Beckinsale dies at 78 after battle with cancer

Judy Loe, the famous English actress and mother of Kate Beckinsale, passed away on July 15 at the age of 78 following cancer battle. The news was announced by Kate Beckinsale on her social media, where she wrote:

"She died the night of July 15th in my arms after immeasurable suffering. I have not picked all the best photos, nor the best videos, because I cannot bear to go through my camera roll yet."

Kate said she hadn’t planned to share the news but had to because her mother’s death certificate would soon be made public.

She continued:

"I deeply apologise to any of her friends who are finding out this way or through the press, but I cannot go through her phone. I am paralysed."

Judith Margaret Loe, famously known as Judy Loe, was the daughter of Norman Scarborough Loe and Nancy Jones, according to IMDb. She did her graduation in English and Drama from the University of Birmingham. In 1977, she married actor Richard Beckinsale, and they had a daughter, Kate Beckinsale. Richard Beckinsale died in his sleep in 1979, reportedly due to cardiac arrest.

In 1997, Loe married Roy Battersby, who passed away last year after suffering a stroke. Along with Kate, Judy was also a stepmother to Samantha Beckinsale, Richard’s daughter from a previous marriage.

Judy Loe started her acting career in 1970 with the British stage version of the musical Hair. She later landed work in many TV shows, including Goodnight and God Bless and Space Island One, and also in the British version of General Hospital, which added to her recognition. She was last seen on screen last year on the episode of Fool Me Once.

Kate Beckinsale pays tribute to her mother, Judy Loe, following her passing

After announcing the news of Judy Loe's death, Kate went on to appreciate her mother in the lengthy post through the statement:

"Jude was the compass of my life, the love of my life, my dearest friend. The vastness and huge heart of this tiny woman has touched so many people who love her dearly. She has been brave in so many ways, forgiving sometimes too much, believing in the ultimate good in people and the world is so dim without her that it is nearly impossible to bear."

She continued:

"Mama, I love you so much. This has been my greatest fear since finding my father dead at five and I am here. Oh my Mama.. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I am so sorry."
