Junior Edwards of "Swamp People" fame has passed away today, according to reports. He was one of the original cast members of "Swamp People," which first aired on the History Channel in 2010. The show featured Junior passing down his generations of knowledge as an experienced alligator hunter to his sons.
The news of his demise was confirmed through a Facebook post by his grandson, in which he said:
"Rest easy pawpaw. I know your probably running your hoop nets or doing something crazy inside those pearly gates…you will be extremely missed pawpaw we love you more than anything!!! Until we meet again."
Junior Edwards - a brief history
Junior Edwards' professional life spanned over four decades, during which period he exhibited a high level of expertise in the ways of swamp life. The show made Edwards a household name in the 2010s, and his death has caused an outpouring of messages by fans on social media.
While the details of his death are yet to be revealed, dozens of fans and public figures have paid tribute to the alligator hunter, including Swamp People‘s Ashley “Deadeye” Jones. In the Instagram post, he was quoted as saying:
"The world lost a legend! Mr Junior Edwards passed away! Please be in prayer for the family!” she captioned a selfie of the two of them on Saturday. “He was one of the greatest alligator hunters there is! He was real hardcore outdoorsman! I watched this man bring in MONSTER gators at Duffys Gas Station in Pierre Part LA. This was after a looooong day for both of us and you can tell it! Glad we took a second for a pic!"
Junior’s reputation as an alligator hunter was built on decades of experience in Louisiana’s waterways. Edwards taught the audience the abilities that were needed in order to live and work in harsh surroundings through his starring role in "Swamp Life."
Edwards remained the lead cast of Swamp People till 2015, but later returned to the show in 2021 amid fan demands. His sons, Willie and Randy, followed in their father’s footsteps and learned the ways of the swamp from him.
Junior Edwards was also actively involved in the community and demonstrated the principles of sustainable hunting practices and wildlife management to the audience through his shows. Other than his master skills as an alligator hunter, Junior Edwards also dealt in the commercial fishing business, which became a focus for him after his television career came to an end.
