Kei Nishikori and Mai Yamaguchi tied the knot in 2020. At the time, he made an official statement, confirming his wedding:
“I would like to report that I have married Mai Yamauchi, who I have been dating for a long time, on December 11th. I would like to get a new companion and prepare well for the coming season, which is expected to start again. The difficult situation continues in the midst of the corona. We look forward to your continued support in the future.”
After tying the knot during Covid-19 in 2020, the tennis player and his wife, celebrated another wedding, free from restrictions, in 2022. The same year, Nishikori allegedly met model Azuki Oguchi.
As per Shukan Bunshun, Nishikori reportedly met Oguchi in 2022 in Honolulu, Hawaii, days before his wedding to Yamaguchi. He was recently photographed visiting Oguchi’s apartment last week in Japan.
According to the outlet, in 2023, Oguchi was confronted by her then-boyfriend over her relationship with Nishikori. The 35-year-old reportedly hired a lawyer at that time to avoid a public scandal.
Although their relationship reportedly ended in 2023, it resumed in 2024 when he told the model that he “no longer loves his wife” and they were together for the sake of their children.
He has now deeply apologised to his wife and two children for his alleged affair. According to a Japanese Outlet, Shukan Bunshun, and as translated by New York Post Sports, he has stated:
“Moving forward, in order to fulfill my role as a responsible member of society, I will focus solely on tennis competitions and achieving results. We will do everything possible to regain their trust.”
Mai Yamaguchi, who keeps away from the public eye, has not yet spoken on his comments. Nishikori's public confession comes after his recent withdrawal from the Wimbledon.
