Who is Laura Govan? Gilbert Arenas' ex shares cryptic message after former NBA player's arrest

On July 30, the U.S. Justice Department released a statement saying that former NBA player Gilbert Arenas was arrested along with five other people. As per the official statement by the US Attorney's Office, Arenas is charged with:

"One count of conspiracy to operate an illegal gambling business, one count of operating an illegal gambling business, and one count of making false statements to federal investigators."

The official statement further states that if found guilty, each person arrested could face up to five years in federal prison for every charge against them. Since Gilbert Arenas is facing three separate charges, he could get a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in federal prison if convicted on all counts.

After the news of his arrest was released, Arenas's ex-girlfriend and TV personality, Laura Govan, shared an Instagram story holding a paintbrush in her hand with the caption:

"Needed to clear my head …"

However, it’s not confirmed whether Laura Govan’s post was a response to Arenas’s arrest or simply a personal moment she chose to share. She didn’t mention him directly.

According to IMDb, the couple was together for about twelve years, starting in 2002. They got engaged in 2008, six years into their relationship. While Arenas is currently married to YouTuber Melli Monaco, he and Govan have four children together: Alijah Arenas, Aloni Arenas, Hamiley Arenas, and Izela Arenas.

Gilbert met Laura Govan when he was playing for the Golden State Warriors from 2001 to 2003. At that time, she was reportedly working at the PR department of the basketball team, the Sacramento Kings. The internet personality later appeared in Basketball Wives LA, Almost Amazing, and JC Tha Barber, building her name in the industry. She has over 1.6 million followers on Instagram.

While the two are now separated, Govan remains very close to their four children, often sharing pictures and videos of them on social media to celebrate their milestones and achievements.

Her most recent photo featuring her four children was uploaded at the beginning of July with the caption:

In an interview with DJ Vlad last year, Gilbert Arenas revealed that he gave Laura Govan a $400K engagement ring but took it back and replaced it with a fake after they broke up. She later sued him after finding out the ring was fake through his social media, but he had already sold the real ring and used part of the money for legal fees.
