Australian-American country singer, songwriter, and guitarist Keith Urban recently paid an onstage tribute to Maggie Baugh, his longtime collaborator. He changed the lyrics of his hit song, The Fighter, which was previously associated with his now-estranged wife, actress and film producer Nicole Kidman.
The original lyrics, “When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter,” were recently changed to “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player” when Keith Urban and Maggie Baugh were performing live together as part of his ongoing tour, the High and Alive World Tour in late September 2025.
Maggie Baugh, a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Boca Raton, Florida, makes music in both country and classical genres. She is a touring guitarist for Keith Urban and a rising country star.
Baugh, 25, shared the clip of Urban’s onstage tribute to her on her Instagram. It was captioned, “Did he just say that?”
Keith Urban’s song’s lyric change came a few days after reports emerged that he and Nicole Kidman had separated after 19 years of marriage, and the actress filed for divorce on September 30 in Nashville, Tennessee.
Everything you need to know about Maggie Baugh
According to her website, Maggie Baugh is a classical and country music singer, songwriter, violinist, and guitarist from Boca Raton, Florida, who is now based in Nashville, Tennessee. She rose to fame via her music videos on TikTok titled “Finish the Lick,” which has amassed over 4 million views and 300,000 followers since 2022.
Baugh’s debut album is called Dear Me, which was released across music streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and Amazon Music in October 2023. It earned over 500,000 streams in less than 24 hours and reached the 19th spot on the U.S. Country Album charts and 9th on the Australian Country Album Charts. The album is inspired by her mental health challenges and surviving middle-school bullying.
As per her bio, she joined Keith Urban last year as a utility player on his tour. Maggie Baugh has appeared on shows hosted by Kelly Clarkson, Jimmy Fallon, and Jimmy Kimmel. Her other appearances happened on the Today Show, CMT Awards, Ryman Auditorium, and Nissan Stadium, among others.
Besides Keith Urban, she has collaborated with lyricists Elena Jones and Tyler Bank. Baugh has also performed at the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Grand Ole Opry, alongside other music festivals, theaters, and dive bars. She headlined the Entertainers Heart World Tour.
Speaking with The Hamilton Country Reporter in September 2025, Maggie Baugh said she had been playing violin since the age of 6 and began singing at 12. She had also been visiting Nashville since she was a teenager, which is when she also started songwriting.
“I put out my very first record when I was 13 years old. I’m actually from South Florida, and it’s a festival season all year round in South Florida, so I toured a lot there,” Maggie stated.

Sharing that he soon performed at “bigger venues” across Florida, Baugh continued,
“When I was 18 years old, I moved to Nashville and started touring a bunch. Last year, I was on tour with Keith Urban, and it’s been a crazy, wild journey, man.”
She also spoke about having no music industry connections, as her father is a microbiologist and her mother is a homemaker and runs a dog training business, adding, she is an “oddball.”
During a 2022 interview with Up N Country, Maggie Baugh claimed she was an “old soul,” despite being born in 2000. She explained that her “Finish the Lick” edition was inspired by the “Finish the Lyric” TikTok trend.
Baugh said, “[I thought], ‘What can I do that’s different?’ And so, I was jamming in my room one night, I was [doing] finish the lick. [I thought,] ‘That’s an awesome idea,’ because I could showcase all of my instruments, so it’s not just vocals.
She added, “And so, I ran over to my neighbor and started knocking on her door. I [asked], ‘Will you help me film a couple of videos, please?’ And so, the first couple of videos [were] her helping me out in my bedroom. Literally, it was so fun, but it caught on and I gained 80,000 followers in not even a month.”
In April 2025, she released the singles Headstone and Other Side of the World, which were part of her sophomore album, Entertainers Heart.
“Life is good for me right now, so I wanted to write about where I’m at. Music is a common ground. You can forget about what is going on around you and just have a good time. Embrace the precious moments,” Baugh said during a recent interview with Pittsburgh Music Magazine.
“I want people to be happy both on stage and off stage. I’ll put on the same show for five people or a whole arena. Entertaining like that is kind of a lost art,” she added.
Maggie Baugh further told the publication that Keith Urban asked her to join him on his tour at the 2024 CMT Music Awards. At the time, she compared the collaboration to “going to rock star school” and called Urban “a musical encyclopaedia.”
She has been sharing videos of her onstage moments with Keith Urban on her social media since last month, according to US Magazine. She dreams of working with music producer Jay Joyce and considers Charlie Daniels her idol.
