American basketball power forward Marcus Morris Sr. was reportedly arrested in Broward County, Florida, on July 27. Marcus faces a felony fraud charge for reportedly issuing a fraudulent check. However, it has not been confirmed which state is filing the charge upon him.
The 35-year-old free agent has played for a number of famous teams, which include the Houston Rockets, Phoenix Suns, Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers. He last played for the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2024.
Born in Philadelphia, Morris is the son of Thomasine Morris and the twin brother of fellow basketball player Markieff Morris, who most recently played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA.
He reportedly majored in American studies at the University of Kansas. Morris was chosen as Big 12 Player of the Year in the 2010-2011 season and later received All-American honors. He was also selected for the Wooden Award All-American team. He also has a son named Marcus Thomas Morris Jr..

Marcus Morris Sr. was reportedly arrested at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Broward County, Florida, as per DailyMail. Marcus has been previously also reportedly arrested in 2012 for a battery charge after allegedly hitting a bar employee. In 2015, he was involved in an assault case in Arizona with his brother and others but was later found not guilty.
His last post on Instagram was on July 21, wishing his son with Amber Soulds, Marcus Thomas Morris Jr., a birthday through the caption:
"Happy big 7!! You give me purpose young fella!!"
Marcus Morris Sr. joined the Cleveland Cavaliers on a ten-day contract in March 2024, after which the team decided to sign him for the rest of the season. Later that year, in September, he re-signed with the New York Knicks but was removed just two weeks later.
As of now, neither Marcus nor his representatives have issued a statement about the arrest. Details about his legal representation or attorney have not been confirmed yet.
