This is not Mingus Lucien’s first brush with the police. On Friday, September 24, 2021, Mingus was arrested in New York for allegedly assaulting a 24-year-old woman. The alleged assault happened during the 2021 San Gennaro festival in New York City. The victim was a young woman whose identity wasn't disclosed. She claimed that Mingus punched her in the face after having an argument. The police confirmed the victim had injuries below her left eye.
Mingus argued that he was only trying to protect himself and his friends after the woman allegedly assaulted them with her group of friends.
“It was very apparent that these girls were under the influence and looking for a fight,” he told The New York Daily News.
“It was instinct. I was reacting to them swarming me and was afraid for the safety of my group,” he added. “These girls swarmed me, one pulling my hair from the back, another throwing water in my face.”
“Ten seconds later, the police got involved. Police saw one of the girls hurt and refused to listen to the context,” the young model continued.
“My intention for that day was to mind my own business and play fair games.”
Mingus eventually took the plea deal in March 2022 to the lesser charge of disorderly conduct. The young model was sentenced to a conditional discharge and had to attend five private counselling sessions.
