American R&B singer, songwriter, and producer Montell Jordan appeared on TODAY on September 3 to mark World Prostate Cancer Month. He spoke about his 2024 diagnosis and how he wasn’t “completely on the other side of that journey,” meaning his prostate cancer had relapsed, despite going into remission last year.

“I always imagined I would be telling my prostate cancer story from the other side of prostate cancer because I had a radical prostatectomy surgery. My prostate was removed. There were clear margins. Close to a year post-prostatectomy, I still need to go back and have additional treatments because it’s been detected that there is still cancer,” Jordan stated.

The Let’s Ride singer shared that having supportive family and friends helps him through the journey, adding:

“I’ve got the toughest wife and kids on the planet — there’s no question.”

Montell Jordan has been married to Kristin Hudson for over three decades. She is his former manager, motivational speaker, author, mentor, youth leader, mission worker, and marriage minister, according to the couple’s website.

Elsewhere, Montell Jordan discussed his work with Zero Cancer, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people navigate their prostate cancer journey and access proper resources.

Exploring the personal life of Montell Jordan

Montell Jordan and Kristin Hudson tied the knot in 1994. They have five children and multiple grandchildren and are now based in Atlanta, Georgia. A year after their wedding, the couple launched their careers with Jordan’s hit single, This Is How We Do It. While he wrote and sang the song, she was his manager.

Later, they embarked on two decades of world tours, album sales, and the journey of finding God together. They also navigated through infidelity, bankruptcy, and miscarriage. The pair has been associated with Victory World Church in Norcross, Georgia, since 2008.

While Montell is an ordained minister and executive pastor, Kristin is a church mentor, public speaker, leader, and author.

In 2017, Montell Jordan and Kristin Hudson (now Jordan) co-wrote their first book, This Is How We Do It! Making Your Marriage A Masterpiece. Together, they now travel the globe as ministers of God to help people, especially couples, through their pre and post-marital problems, via counselling.

Last year, on June 18, the couple celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary. At the time, Montell Jordan exclusively told Us Weekly:

“As we reflect on our 30 years together, we see the power of faith, love, and perseverance in our marriage. Our goal is to share the lessons we’ve learned and the grace we’ve received to inspire and transform a million marriages. By leaning on God and each other, we believe every couple can build a love that endures and thrives,” the 56-year-old stated.

Likewise, Kristin Hudson shared that “the foundation of a lasting union is faith, forgiveness, and unwavering commitment,” adding, “Cherish each other, pray together daily, and always seek God’s wisdom in every step you take.”

The couple wore wedding attire, with him in a tux and her in a gown, and marked their anniversary with a farmhouse photo shoot. Kristin and Montell Jordan renewed their vows in Saint Martin in the presence of close friends and family.

More about Montell Jordan’s cancer journey

Montell Jordan was first diagnosed with prostate cancer in January 2024. Later that year, he underwent a radical prostatectomy and went into remission. However, now, nine months later, his cancer has returned in “tiny amounts” in the lymph nodes on his left side and the prostate bed, the singer told TODAY in a recent interview.

“We thought it was all confined, isolated to the prostate. Apparently, that was not the case,” he stated.

Jordan also shared his course of treatment, aka proton radiation therapy, which he’ll undergo for five days a week for seven weeks, starting in October. He would also use hormone blockers to ensure he has a “longer life.”

Montell Jordan continued by saying how he was optimistic about the future and was grateful for the “fantastic quality of life” since his first diagnosis. He shared that his early diagnosis helped him become cancer-free the first time.

The Los Angeles native gave a shout-out to his family, wife, children, friends, and ministry leaders for their constant support. Additionally, he mentioned that Zero Prostate Cancer helped him raise awareness and advocate for Black men to get routine prostate cancer screenings for early diagnosis and treatment.

Jordan concluded by saying he has documented his cancer battle in a “transformative” documentary titled Sustain, which will be released later this year.
