Who plays Jinu in KPop Demon Hunters? Star's career and notable projects, explored

KPop Demon Hunters premiered on Netflix on June 20, 2025, and met with positive reviews, holding a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The animated musical fantasy film is the directorial work of Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. The story is by Kang, who has also co-written the screenplay with Appelhans, Danya Jimenez, and Hannah McMechan. Here’s the official synopsis as per IMDb:

A world-renowned K-Pop girl group balance their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as demon hunters.

One of the most prominent characters in the film is Jinu, who has been voiced by Ahn Hyo-seop.


All about the actor who voiced Jinu in KPop Demon Hunters

Jinu, in KPop Demon Hunters, is a character who leads the Saja Boys and is a demon. He has several pets, including a magpie with six eyes and a blue-colored tiger. Jinu used to be a human being, but he sold his soul to an evil entity named Gwi-Ma in exchange for musical abilities.

In KPop Demon Hunters, the character is voiced by Canadian actor-singer Ahn Hyo-seop, who is based out of South Korea.

Ahn spoke to Netflix, the actor spoke about the character. He said:

"A long time ago, Jinu made a very dangerous but life-changing decision in order to protect his family, and that choice led to suffering and being trapped in darkness with his soul under [Gwi-Ma’s] control. Despite all of that, I think Jinu still [hold] onto warmth and has a deep sense of love and curiosity about humanity.”

Ahn Hyo-seop’s notable works as an actor and singer

Ahn graduated from Kookmin University and later worked as a trainee for JYP Entertainment. In 2015, he released his debut single called “Love You” through his project group One O One. The group was founded by actors Kwon Do-kyun, Song Won-seok, and Kwak Si-yang. However, the group disbanded in early 2019, possibly due to inactivity.

Ahn made his acting debut with the drama television series Splash Splash Love. He also did supporting roles in shows like Entertainer, One More Happy Ending, and Happy Home. Slowly, Ahn made a successful transition into leading roles in 2017 with the TV drama Queen of the Ring, which also made him a household name.

Some of his other television works include My Father Is Strange, Still 17, Abyss, Dr. Romantic, Lovers of the Red Sky, Business Proposal, and A Time Called You, among others. Ahn’s forthcoming film includes the action fantasy flick Omniscient Reader: The Prophet, which will be released on July 23, 2025.

The KPop Demon Hunters actor has also appeared in the music video Even For A Moment and a web series titled Top Management. He has also been featured in television programs like Celebrity Bromance and Always Cantare. Besides acting, he also hosted the 4th Asia Artist Awards and the 2022 SBS Drama Awards. As a singer, Ahn has also released several singles, including Thank You For The Memories and I Will Show You, among others.
